Nikon 16x50 Action VII Wide Angle Porro Prism Binocular

  • By binolover   05/18/2008 Excellent
  • Pros:
1.very well weight balance. Do not feel heavy at all.2.very short nearest focus distance, surprisingly.3.very wide angle at this 16x power range.4.mechanically very well fit to my hands.
  • Cons:
1.at this price, I can not say anything negative at all.2.if want water-proof, just add another $100 more to get an ATB model.3.although not perfect for lunar observation, it is very acceptable.
  • Summary:
Summary: It is good for watching a full moon. Ghost image is very small, limited and really not a big deal. Do not forget you pay only $100 for this one. It is nothing wrong of being made in China. Any design flaw is from Nikon, Japan. I do not understand why China is to blame. Without Chinese modern manufacturing power, this one would cost you at least $300 US dollars.I strongly recommend this Nikon Action 16x50 to any one wants a 16x Binoculars

  • Pros:
Aspherical eyepiece lenses & BAK4 prisms. Comes with all needed accessories including tripod adapter. The case can be fastened onto a pants belt which makes it very handy for storing small items.
  • Cons:
Not fogproof or waterproof. Needs a monopod or a tripod for extended viewing. Not good for lunar observation.
  • Summary:
I used this binocular for astronomy & for bird watching. I mounted it on a tripod for stargazing, & I used a monopod for watching birds. The brightness, clarity & sharpness is excellent. It is handholdable for brief periods of time. It is not too heavy or too bulky for me.The biggest disappointment is the fact that this model is made in China & not in Japan. The optics could be better under certain viewing conditions. For example, when viewing a full moon there are multiple images(ghosting) visible due to inadequate optics. Nikon lists their Action 16x50 binocular under the heading of Astronomy, but it is limited in this area. (I sold mine because it was not acceptable for lunar observation) Other than that it is a very good binocular.
