The iPod is a dynamic product that offers music lovers more than they could have dreamed of only a decade ago. It truly is the MP3 player of the century. Still, some people get a lot more out of their iPods than others. Getting the right iPod accessories is one of the most critical ways to improve your iPod experience.
iPod Accessories At Your House
The Apple Universal Dock is a USB port extension. It's your base for syncing and charging your Apple devices. Use of the Dock isn't restricted to just one device, either. It's compatible with the iPod Nano, the iPod classic, the iPod Touch and even the iPhone and iPhone 3G (though the correct dock adapter is needed). The dock comes with an Apple remote that controls the iPod while it is hooked up. If the Dock is plugged into a compatible TV or stereo, the remote allows you to turn it into an all-purpose, remotely controlled media machine. Hook your iPod to any USB port with a handy dock connector. One end connects to your iPod, and the other end is a USB connector.
One of the most exciting possibilities is the tremendous range of Apple iPod accessories that can help you turn your iPod into a home stereo system. If you choose the right iPod dock sound system and speakers, you'll get surround sound (high-quality speakers make you feel like your favorite musicians are on tour in your house!) You'll also be able to connect your iPod to your computer via USB. One popular choice is the Bose iPod Sound Deck, which charges your iPod as it plays. Use a remote to control your sound system from the comfort of your favorite recliner or integrate your iPod with your existing media system. No need to go without tweeters and woofers in your iPod audio system either. A full range of possibilities in iPod cords and cables is waiting to be explored.
In the habit of downloading TV programs onto your iPod? Watch them later right on your TV with a special iPod docking station that hooks up to your media center.
On the Road iPod Accessories
Until very recently, CDs were the preferred vehicle for music. The compact disc was overthrown by the MP3 player, most notably the Apple iPod. As a result of this quick transition, most cars are not equipped with iPod docking stations in their sound systems. If you've got a considerably older vehicle, you won't even need the latest iPod adapter; a simple cassette adapter can be plugged into your iPod in the headphone jack. If, though, like most of us, your car is equipped with a near obsolete CD player, then an iPod car adapter is a must. One version is an FM transmitter that actually uses your radio to play your iPod. Using an FM transmitter means that you can control your volume using your normal car radio controls. FM transmitters are a convenient way to bring your music with you on the go-you'll get a clean signal that can't be beat when you use a quality FM transmitter with your iPod.
There's also the Drive + Play iPod/Car Interface which allows you to easily control your iPod while you're driving-it mounts on your dashboard so you won't have to twiddle with the iPod itself. You may also want a travel pack that will hold all of your vital iPod accessories for your next road trip.
Portable speakers in a handy travel case are also available; if you want to take speakers on the road, these are a great choice.
Accessories That Go Around the World
If you ever travel abroad, you'll want a worldwide power adapter kit to go with your iPod USB power adapter. That way, you can conveniently charge your iPod in foreign AC outlets. The adapters also work with all your other Apple products, like the MacBook. While these adapters are extremely useful for the frequent traveler, it should be noted that generic adapters are available that will work with any standard device and outlet. Further, this product is only an adapter, not a converter, so if you are in a country with significantly different voltage coming from their outlets, you may need a separate converter to bring the voltage into the needed range.
iPod Accessories At Work
Voice Recorder-Want to record memos for yourself? Record notes, lectures, interviews, and more with a CD-quality voice recorder. These devices are a handy way to keep track of important information. Plus, they don't take up much space, and they attach right to the bottom of your iPod.
In Your Bag
iPods are some of the sleekest gadgets around. Their minimalistic design and smooth features are a big part of their appeal. The simplest way to maintain that new-iPod sheen is with a simple sock. No, not a gym sock, but a small cover that goes over your iPod. They come in a variety of colors and fit all the iPods except for the shuffle. Other case options include a leather folio for the iPod Touch, as well as a reflective polycarbonate case a chrome-like finish. iPod Classic cases are available as well.
On Your Arm
A popular choice for joggers, iPod armbands are carrying cases for your iPod. Third party developers have created a wide variety of different armbands available for the many models of iPods out there. Thankfully the iPod Shuffle comes complete with a clip so you can sport it on your arm all the time.
In Your Ears
Sure, your iPod comes with headphones, but wireless headphones are a good choice as well. You can move up to 30 feet away from your iPod, yet control it with integrated controls. This is great for lifting weights, cooking, or cleaning your house-any activity where you don't want a headphone cord getting in your way.

Having a DJ background, I picked up a Numark iDJ2 iPod docking controller (http://www.planetdj.com/i--IDJ2) and now I can control my iPod the way I want to. Not to mention, it has now easily replaced my entire home stereo system... truly remarkable!
