I recently earned the nickname "Jack Sparrow" because of the way I rock a red bandana. A bandana is a pretty versatile square of fabric -- Jack and I wear ours on our heads, but that's not the only way to wear bandanas. Keep reading for some ideas.
My hair is too short to put back in a ponytail, but too long to stay out of my face, so a bandana is the perfect solution for me when I'm driving with the windows down, going to the gym, or just want the hair out of my eyes for a day. Wearing a bandana this way is simple.
Start by unfolding your bandana all the way into a large square. Then fold it in half diagonally so you have a triangle. Put the long, flat side on your forehead, wrapping the bandana around your head, and tie the two ends of the triangle together in a knot. You can tuck the point of the bandana in behind the knot if you'd like. You can also fold the bandana over itself a few times to create more of a headband than a head scarf.
For athletic purposes, these Adidas sport bandanas are better than your standard bandana, because they're made with special moisture wicking fabric. You'll still need to wash them, of course, but they can handle your sweat a lot better than a regular bandana.
Bandanas aren't just great headwear. I use the colorful paisley fabric to stitch up holes in my pants, giving them a funky new look. Some people use them as handkerchiefs, while yet others wear them Punky Brewster-style, tied around the knee. If you love bandana style, don't miss these custom bandana hi-tops from Converse.
