Cheap Laptops for Students

Toshiba laptop for studentsWith school now in full gear, there are a lot of students out there with the same need... a cheap laptop for school. With today's technology, it is easier than ever to find cheap laptops for students that are cheap in price, but great in terms of what you can buy with your money.

Since students are returning to school, we took a look around our laptop section and found some really nice ones on sale now.

One great laptop for returning students is the Toshiba mini NB205-N210 Netbook. This powerful little netbook comes cheap at only $349.99, although there is nothing cheap about its performance. It features a 1.66 GHz processor and a nice 160 GB hard drive, perfect for storing everything you need for school. The monitor is a small 10.1 inches and it weighs only 2.93 pounds so it is easy to lug around campus in and out of classrooms. Comes with Microsoft Windows XP and will definitely handle anything you throw its way.

Sony VAIO student laptopAnother big name in computers is Sony, and a great cheap laptop for students this year is the Sony VAIO Netbook computer. Sony has always made great computers, and this one is ideal for students that need a light weight, reliable computer that can take some abuse. You can pick up this computer for under $500 and it comes with a 1.66 GHz processor and a 160 GB hard drive. The computer has a 10.1 inch display and weighs in at only 2.6 pounds. Another great option for students of any age.

Dell Inspiron for StudentsYou can't write a feature on great laptops without including an Inspiron Laptop from Dell. The new Dell Inspiron 15 really brings power, but with a low price tag of only $579, making it one of the best cheap laptops for students. It has a 2 GHz processor and a really nice 250 GB hard drive. With its 3 GB RAM, you know that this computer has all the speed that you could want from you new computer, as well as being easy to handle coming in at only 5.8 pounds. Although this is the heaviest computer we have seen so far, the extra couple of pounds allows you to increase you monitor size up to 15.6 inches.

Acer Laptops for StudentsA fantastic laptop maker on the market is Acer, which has built its reputation on low cost, reliable computers that give the consumer exactly what they want... fast computing power at a low price. The Acer Aspire One netbook gives you exactly that. This computer is on sale right now for only $292.99 so it definitely fits any sort of budget, and then some. It has a 1.33 GHz processor and a 160 GB hard drive. It features an 11.6 inch display size and weighs a light weight 3 pounds. Has a built in webcam and a very respectable 8 hour battery life, so you won't have to worry about running out of battery during class. A really good computer for the price here.

Apple Macbook Pro for StudentsWe all know "cheap" is a relative word. I like to think of cheap as being a really good deal for the price, and that is why I am including the Apple 13.3 inch MacBook Pro Notebook. I made the switch to Apple a couple months ago, and I know I will never go back, these computers are just that good. You can pick up a great MacBook Pro for $1,149, or if you want to save a few hundred dollars you can grab a refurbished machine for a bit less (comes with 1 year Apple warranty). While these computers are a bit more expensive than our previous machines, you are really getting a great deal on these laptops for students. It has Intel Core 2 Duo processor built around the Mac OS X operating system. A 2.26 GHz processor and 160 GB hard drive. If you are considering buying your first Mac, you will not be disappointed, and this is a great cheap laptop for students wanting to use an Apple.

So there you have it, some really good choices for students that need some new computing power for the school year. What are your favorite laptops? Share your experiences with our readers and let us know which laptops you love, or hate.

    I just bought the Toshiba for myself and I love it. We already have a newer desktop and a standard laptop, but I just wanted something to do e-mail and surf the net that I can take outside on the deck or to another room so I can watch my daughter when she's playing. I got a cheap (but nice) carrying case for $7.00 at Buy.com and a mouse with a retractable cord (around $9.00) at Yugster.com. All I need is an external drive for DVD/CD's and I'm all set. Also, don't let the smaller keyboard or battery life scare you off. The Toshiba's keyboard is 92% the size of a standard laptop keyboard and has 9 hour battery life.

    Never buy a Lenovo. I was working a few weeks on the road and didn't pick the stupid thing up at my PO box , and the first time that I used it right out of the box I got a blue screen. They wouldn't give me my money back because I had it too long. Every time you talk to tech support its some do nothing machine that reads the same BS off of a computer screen. I did all the things that tech support said like reload all the programs and soft wear. None of that helped. The blue screens got worse. 3, 4 and 5 times a day worse. After every blue screen, it would take 20-30 min. to get the thing going again. My work was suffering. It took forever to get any work done. It has other problems as well. I get booted off line all the time. My internet connection says that it is connected and at full strength, but I get booted off line about 5 times a day. Again, it takes 10-15 min. to get back up and running. After complaining for about 8 months, they sent a tech to my house. The tech guy was nice, but whatever he replaced it did nothing to help my computer. I still get blue screens all the time. They wanted me to send the computer back to them. NEVER SEND A COMPUTER BACK TO THE COMPANY! They keep the thing for months, and they never fix it when you get it back. I refused to send it in. Some jerkoff at Lenovo wanted me to write the numbers down from the blue screens so he could figure out what was wrong. I sent him the numbers and he said that I had a soft wear problem. He sent me some thing that was supposed to fix the soft wear problem. It was $49.00. It didn't fix anything. I still get constant blues screens. I thing that I have to go to small claims court to get my money back. There is a reason IBM sold its lap top operation to Lenovo. It wasn't worth anything.

    Hi;
    Excellent Post! Students cant afford high prices of new Laptops. They want a good laptop in a cheaper rates which fufill there all requirements. And the best choice for cheap laptop is refurbished. Cheap refurbished laptops does not mean that you buy a laptop that can not work very well but in general is kind of cheap refurbished laptop computers that have been repaired or replaced parts that were damaged so that the laptop could work similar to other new laptops, but sold at a cheaper price. I also bought a refurbished laptop few months ago that was "Dell Latitude D600" Product ID is "dell_latitude_d600_1.6_combo" from "Electro Computer Warehouse" its so cheap and working well, fulfilling my all requirements. I really like it and satisfied.
