Security Lights -- Safe And Secure

Bronze two security light system

I like security lights -- I have them strategically located around the perimeter of my home. Admittedly, some are landscape lights that emphasize the specimen trees and shrubs, but they serve the same purpose in keeping the exterior of my home well-lit to welcome visitors and discourage those unwanted.

If you need some hints on outdoor security lights, join in after the jump.

Security lights are easy to install, especially if your intent is just to replace an existing outside light fixture. Solar lighting is even easier and may be installed just about anywhere, even areas without adjacent power. The only requirement is that the solar charging panel has daily line of sight access to the sun.

On to security lights:

Wide Range 500 watt security light

For security lights, I'm a fan of "bigger is better", so I like this Bronze 500 Watt Wide-Range Motion Sensor Light. It features a powerful halogen bulb, two-level lighting, a manual override, and a 240 degree width of sensing out to 100 feet of range. Pictured at the left.

Twin outdoor security light

Sometimes two lamps are better than one -- The Two Light Outdoor Security Light fills that bill nicely. The light has a soft-start feature -- the bulbs illuminate slowly to extend their life -- and the motion sensor range is 240 degrees wide and 100 feet deep. The "on-time" duration of the lights is adjustable to your needs. Shown at the right.

Designers Edge dusk to dawn security light

If you prefer a night light that is not triggered by motion, you might prefer this dusk to dawn light from Designers Edge; it sports an Energy Star efficiency rating though the use of its 70 watt bulb and has a 10" reflector to increase the illumination area of the light. At the left.

Designers Fountain three-in-one security light

Designers Fountain Motion Detector Security Light offers more options than just motion-detected illumination. It has a trio of functions -- motion detection, dusk to dawn operation, and the option for use as a conventional outdoor light, controlled by a switch. The lamp, pictured at the right, is a 250 watt halogen model, and the motion detector covers a 240 degree width. Good stuff.

Heath-Zenith security light

If you require a security light for industrial use, look at this Heath-Zenith version. It has a pair of 250 watt halogen lamps, a 270 degree/100 foot coverage, tempered glass covers, adjustable time and sensitivity options, a protective cage for the lamps, and the photocell interrupts the operation at daylight. Pictured left.

Solar security light

I'm also a believer in solar-powered products; this Frontgate Solar Duo Security light has 5 LED's in each of the lamps, a passive infra-red sensor for enhanced sensitivity, 30 seconds of illumination at each triggering, and the solar panel has a 15 foot power cord for convenience in mounting the lights and panel. A one year warranty seals the deal.

Security lights offer peace of mind and a warm welcome for your guests.
