I'm sorry those are not the top AA "designers" those are just celebrities. First of all the pastry line is a licensing agreement that the Simmons just have they names attached too. Baby Phat and Rocafella is stale old news.
replyPlease do some research on some other promising or even upcoming designers. I.e. Tracey Reese, Rachel Roy, Maya Lake of Boxing Kitten, and Oswald Boateng (he's not american).

I totally agree. If this were White designers, we wouldn't be hearing about the Jonas Brothers, or Brittney Spears, or the Kardashians (I love them). To me, celebrities aren't designers, they didn't start out sewing like Callina Strada. They didn't spend years and years pushing their designs like Balenciaga. Where are the REAL AFRICAN AMERICAN DESIGNERS....OR ATLEAST JUST BLACK DESIGNERS. I want to support Black designers. Jay-z will be rich aslong as he keeps rapping. Angela and Vanessa will be rich as long as their dad and uncle are music mogules. I want someone who sat up for 72 hours and sketched, and bought fabric, and sewed, and resized, and revised their OWN clothes. Diddy can't sew. I would buy his clothes if the label read the REAL designers name!

Please check your grammar. It's (their) names; not (they) name.
Your sentiments are well spoken though.

Thanks for reading the article Ann. We wanted to recognize a few African American celebs that have launched their own clothing line. Rachel Roy, Tracey Reese, etc. are also great up-and-coming African American designers and we've just updated the article to highlight them as well :)

Please update information on African American Clothing designers be it celebrities, or other as there are many more. I am trying to do some online shopping tonight for 2 kids fall/winter boots and possibly myself a pair. I am only looking at other boots than what was only noted on Eastbay.com as "timberland" option for my children. I'd prefer other options. The importantance is that they (celebrities listed above) are attributing to our society by putting out fashions that all can where alike or unalike. It is so nice to be able to have the ability to patronize from my own culture in styles that I like and that will accentuate my body. :)

Hi Veronica,
replyI hope I am not being to forward by calling you by your first name but anyway I just wanted to say I appreciate what you are doing as a black woman but I noticed not because of you but that all the top F.D. African American or of color are or were Rappers singers former something. I am looking for AA FD's that fashion was their first passion. I only found one remotely competing and his name is Simon Duncan. I would also like for you to post articles about other countries..There is a South African Fashion Design Company named Stone Cherrie..Their clothes are simply Fashion. Things we don't see in this country./

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll work to update the post with other African American designers from around the world including Simon Duncan's collection.
Best,
