I can't believe the best 2 books that have ever been written are not part of this list:
replyThe Women's Room by Marilyn French (first book written for the feminist movement that opened the eyes of women in this country)
Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell (this book is not about blacks and whites, it's about how women survive)
If you have little time, read the first book, if you have more time, read them both!

Definitely any books by Jen Lancaster. All memoirs and all hilarious and easily relatable. Her first was Bitter is the New Black, then followed by 3 others. Great writer and never wanted to put the books down.

I just read Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. Forget all the movies that were made. Read the book. She has to be one of the great and complex heroines of 19th century literature. Yes, it was written during the Victorian period and some of the language is a little alien to 21st century readers. But I would take this book over all the chick lit that's come out in the last 25 years!

I really love a new author, Avah LaReaux, who is writing a saga. So far, she's only released three of her books, "What's Done in the Dark", "Song of the Siren", and "B@st@rds". Her characters are true, the situations are so real, the dialogue makes sense, and the whole package makes you want to read the whole book in one sitting. I've only been able to find her books online - at Amazon and Barnes & Noble - and on her website, but they are definitely worth seeking out.

I also loved that book. I have read so many great books that I could make a huge list. But what about "100 Years of Solitude" or "The Joy Luck Club" or "Memoirs of a Geisha"?

'Sarah' by Marek Halter and then 'Zipporah' by the same author. But 'Sarah' is a must. Also for anyone who needs a little 'push' in life 'No End in Sight' a true story about a blind female teenage dogsled racer - absolutely incredible - every teen girl (and their moms) should read this one.
