Hot or Not? Skechers Twinkle Toes

Share

Alert! Skechers Twinkle Toes are lighting up playgrounds around the country!

My oldest daughter, recently picked out a pair of ultra vibrant, super sparkly Skechers Twinkle Toes when we were shopping. They seemed relatively harmless, so I decided to buy her a pair as a reward for completing her school's voluntary reading program.

I marveled at my daughter's "unique" flair for fashion, until I stopped by her school to volunteer the other day and I saw lots and I mean lots of twinkling toes. I am a big advocate that kids should forgo fashion trends and just enjoy being themselves, so I found it slightly unsettling that such a noticeable amount of the girls at her school were sporting the Skechers Twinkle Toes. I asked around to some of my Mommy friends and they confirmed my suspicion, Skechers Twinkle Toes are "the" sneaker for girls right now.

I must say, I have never seen a sneaker with so much pizazz. They come in either lace up or slip on and are literally walking sparkling machines. When the shoe is pressed down they blink. They come in a variety of colors and styles and retail for about $40.

They look pretty cute with capris, shorts and skirts. The only drawback that I noticed is that while they are tall on sparkle, they are short on support. I let my daughter wear her Skechers Twinkle Toes but she alternates between those and her better supported running shoes

What do you think? Are these Skechers Twinkle Toes a cute trend for little girls, or a fad whose light will hopefully dim sooner than later? What are the trends that your little girls are in to? Share your comment below or fan us on Facebook and let us know there!

Oh My Land!! My daughter had to have these. She is daughter #4 and though I do try to buy them NEW things there are plenty of times that they will get the bigger sisters hand-me-downs. She had seen these and wanted them. At 49.99 it was hard to dole out that for a pair of shoes. I told her that if they were one sale I would get them for her....well they were on sale for...45.99 (ugh!). So I bought them for her and she was the talk of the playground. She LOVES her Twinkle Toes and for Christmas they got the Twinkle Toe Boots....and IS still wearing them. I have had no problems with these. She has JUMPED into water puddles and to my surprise..her shoes still light up.

Before my scroll down to view comments, myself say these made because cheap quality. Aha, my thoughts did not fail me!

People grow greater toward laziness and less common sense while time march into future. Is it not better to teach child to work hard that will reward efforts and also will remember how to wisely budget or create sadness for child who reaches adulthood because parent was too lazy to fulfill role model job? HaHa to those that hide behind blatant negligence and privately choose blind eyes.

They first made Twinkle Toes Skechers last year with all the rhinestones sparkle and painted on design but without the lights when you walk. I bought them for my daughter (age 5)back then and she still wears and loves them. My only complaint has been that the knots on the elastic strings have come undone on a few and I have had to re-tie them (she has the slip on version.) To me they are worth it if alot of your childs clothes go with the colors of the design you pick, and if your child does not tend to use their feet as the brake on bikes and such, the rhinestones can lose their sparkle!

Several years ago my grandchildren had flipflops that lit up when they stepped down-since I am something of a shoe freak I commented on them. For Mother's Day I got a pair! I still wear them and I enjoy them. There is something joyous about lighting up when you step down. And trust me it's been a long time since I have been in school. Sometimes you just need something because it is fun.

If you wear an adult 6 1/2 to 7, try a kid's size 4 to 5. I do! I love these shoes, but just for fun, not for long term wear.

I purchased these shoes in Feb., way before they were widely advertised and popular, for my 6 year old niece and held them as a surprise reward in anticipation of a good report card. Well I gavem them to her two weeks ago(she had a great report card)!

They are TOO CUTE and you will most likely go to your child's school and find the SKETCHERS brand IF NOT the exact sparkley shoe. My niece goes to a magnet public elementary school and uniforms are the dress code in our school system (thank goodness) so I don't mind getting colorful shoes for her to jazz things up from time to time.

The flahsing lights have a tendancy to make me a little sick (literally), and I am not that impressed with the level of foot and arch support. While they are more for SHOW and not for SPORT I only allow her to wear for fun. I don't allow her to wear them for PE or during any other really involved sports activity. Not even to the playground.

Believe it our not the shoe she most likes to wear ALL DAY LONG even when playing is her ROSE PINK MERRILL suede loafer slip on shoe. I love Merrill's kids line -- great support! I am also a big fan of BOURNE for kids.

As far as the price goes -- WAY TOO MUCH -- but I got my pair on sale at SEARS -- and I have seen them at SEARS recenlty for as low as 29.99. These shoes are a much better shoe than the CROC (which I despise). If you have to choose a fad at least some SKETCHERS tie up and provides some enclosed foot support.

I am 52. When I was a kid we took our regular Keds sneakers and decorated them very very similar to what I see in these Skechers sneakers. I remember putting the peace sign and the flowers just like those on my sneakers. A little glue, some glitter and wa-la!! It irks me that todays "younger parents" don't have a clue about being creative, just buying their kids "what's in" at the moment. Would I have loved for my parents to buy me everything kids get today? Nah, I loved using my brain and being creative because I had "one of a kind"!!

oh I agree with you, but the problem lies in the other kids, now a days if you make something home made AFTER its popular other kids will call those kids poor and gross and make fun of them. hell it even happened when I was a kid 25 years ago. there were these really cute dresses that everyone was wearing, I wanted one..so my mom made me one. I showed up to school the next day so proud and happy, and I was laughed out of the class room and told I was wearing pajamas..and this is third grade in the mid eighties...kids dont want to be picked on and made fun of. most of us made it through it, but with so many recent bullyin suicides goin on, I dont what what ill do when that situation comes up with m y kids who are 2 years old and 6 mo

Really you think the parents from the 1950's were so much more creative than the parents of today? It's nice that you can feel nostalgic about your lost childhood, but it irks me that you think you know and can generalize all, "younger parents" as not being creative.

I am with you..I used to decorate shoes, clothes...make my own clothes, rather than paying the "big bucks" that I did not have. I even decorated things for my friends...very artsy. Today kids are TOO spoiled..I have 2 grandsons 7 & 4 & they have LOTS of relatives that buy them "everything" when it comes to birthdays & Christmas. My oldest grand child told me he got "way too many toys" for Christmas. My son has a meager pay check & struggles to get them things they need, he will splurge occasionally...but mommies family (they are not together anymore) goes overboard. You can't BUY your kids & too many people nowadays get them what they want & never have time to do anything with them. I would never pay $49 for a pair of shoes my child will out grow in 2-3 months!!! My son would rather play with his kids outside (boating, camping, biking, skating) instead of them vegging in front of the TV, ipod, computer.

You think parents of today aren't creative??? Have you seen the scrapbooks and cards people create these days? I just glued things into their books. I bought cards at Hallmark. I think they are creative enough.
By the way, did your mom make your shoes?

What's the big deal? The kid wants a pair of shoes that just so happen to be trendy. This is hardly a new issue? Remember Heelys-the roller skate shoe, Vans, Airwalks, Air Jordans (this might have only been in Chicago) Reebok pumps, or even L.A. Lights? This trend will pass and soon there will be a new "must-have" shoe on the playground.

I bought my daughter a pair less than two weeks ago....she loved them! ...but they have worn out so fast...I'm so disappointed in their quality. Already they are coming apart and the paint has worn off the inside. Any one else have this problem?

The paint didnt come off but my daughter sat there and peeled it off. It is just an iron on placed on the inside so if they get wet it peels off pretty quickly. I would have to say this is quite a flaw by the designer.

I had problems with these sneakers as well. The rhinestones fell off the paint peeled off. I won't be purchasing another pair of these. Not worth the money.

    Had similar problem:
I bought these shoes two weeks ago tomorrow for my 8 year old daughter. They had only been worn 5 times to school when I discovered the peace sign at the back of the right shoe looked torn and is simply an iron on. They look as though they have been worn daily for several months. The rubber on the sides where the bend of the toes is already separating. I really valued Skechers as a higher quality shoe, not only from past experience with their products but due to the price. Looks like I will be taking back the pair that I purchased for my 3 year old daughter that haven't been worn yet.
I wonder is Skechers will stand behind their product?

Well good news and bad news....

I called Skechers customer service and they recommend returning the shoe to the place of purchase. To prevent the design from peeling off they recommend spraying the shoe with Scotch Guard (wish that info would have come with the shoes) and if it is already peeling simply use fabric glue to repair. If you send the shoe to them claiming it is defective the process can last 4-6 weeks..UGH!

Next, I called Shoe Carnival where I purchased the shoes. Had the pleasure of speaking with the general manager that just happened to answer the phone. She is willingly going to swap them for a new pair of the same shoes. However, if the same problem occurs again she will then swap for a different shoe. I had been a frequent customer of theirs but will definitely become a loyal customer.

Just thought I would share those little tidbits for those that were in my same predicament. Good luck!

One word, ew. I would never ever in my right mind get these even for an 8 year old, that would just be cruel to make someone wear these. Seriously, converse and vans are always the right choice, these are just cheap looking and ugly. Seriously, people get made fun of for wearing these shoes, so as I say cruel to make anyone wear these. Yuck!
