A rite of Spring, for me, is to pull out all my
hoses (safely drained and stored for the Winter) and nozzles to see what needs to be discarded and replaced, or repaired. While all my hoses are in great shape and good for another year, one of my nozzles had seen better days. Sweet; a chance to get a new nozzle. So I did my homework.
If you're on the hunt for a
hose nozzle, and want to take advantage of my research, read on.

Most new models of
hose nozzles are variations on a theme, but occasionally you find one that has an entirely new wrinkle to it, like this
Dual Flow XL Multi-Function Hose Nozzle. (The name alone piqued my interest). Its design allows you to control the flow of water from the nozzle and not have to return to the faucet to change the volume of water going through the hose. With a lever on the side of the nozzle, you can divert the water from the high-pressure, 7-pattern outlet to a free-flowing stream as if you had no nozzle attached. That feature I didn't find so interesting as the threaded outlets on the nozzle body for auxiliary attachments --
hose end sprayers,
sprinklers, and the like. All without removing the nozzle. That, I did like. The nozzle is rugged, with stainless steel and brass components. Good stuff. Pictured right.
Gilmour makes fine garden utensils, and this
Turbo Nozzle FD 1 is a good example -- a power sprayer, the fireman's handle controls the water flow through the metal body of the adjustable nozzle. Shown right, this utensil would be a great addition to your
garden tools.
If you need only a straightforward, rugged nozzle, the Bonaire
Ultimate Nozzle may be for you -- it's conveniently small, at an inch in diameter, and fits a standard 5/8" hose; made of aluminum, stainless steel and top-shelf fiberglass, with a high-friction rubber grip, the unit turns on or off in either direction. Simplicity defined. At the left.
If you appreciate the tried and true kinds of nozzles, the
Orbit Brass Nozzle is your baby; 4" of heavy-duty solid brass, the nozzle sports a wide range of adjustment, from a fine mist to a solid stream.
If you're wondering which
hose nozzle I purchased, it was the Dual Flow; I'm a gadget kind of guy, and the more bells and whistles something has, the happier I am. I'm very pleased with my purchase.
