Here are we are at our second round of beauty commandments. If you missed our first post, we asked our readers to give us their "thou shalts" and "thou shalt nots" for caring for their face and we got some really good advice! Today, it's all about the body, which sometimes doesn't get as much TLC as our face. If you're in this boat, it's time to get back on track and treat your body right! Continue reading and discover how one of our readers gets her skin as soft as a baby's bottom, how one achieves the most natural-looking tan with a self-tanner and more. We, the AOL Shopping team, even threw in a couple of our own beauty commandments.

"Thou shalt take time out once a week to exfoliate. A simple mixture of coarse sea salt and olive oil in the bath can help solve some skin problems located on places other than your face and leaves dull skin more radiant and fresh." -- Jenny Alva Here are some brands you may not have tried yet: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

"Thou shalt use lotion to highlight thy cleavage. On days when you want to give your chest some extra attention, apply a mixture of lotion and shimmery bronzer to your cleavage. Some women simply dust bronzer onto their chests, but mixing the bronzer with lotion prevents an overall cakey look." -- Brittany Chojnowski (Cleveland, Ohio) Use these bronzers to try Brittany's trick above or to achieve a sunkissed face: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

"Thou shalt pour some sugar on thyself. But really, take a page out of Def Leppard's book and sugar up. Brown sugar is a wonderful head-to-toe exfoliator, not only will regular application make way for radiant skin, it's also far less abrasive than salt scrubs. Here's some ways to use this multi-faceted sweetener: Use with your favorite conditioner as a scalp scrub to keep dry, scabby scalp at bay. Start with dry hair that's sectioned off in fours. Then mix brown sugar with your favorite conditioner and rub in the mixture on all parts taking care to use your finger tips rather than scratching your scalp. You can also whip a batch of brown sugar body scrub in lieu of more expensive store brands to get you ready for any type of weather and for sandal season. Try this formula: 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 olive oil with a couple of dollops of honey. After bathing, slather this concoction on your skin and rinse well under a warm stream of water. With regular use, your skin, and your wallet will thank you." -- Dionne Victor (Brooklyn, NY) Get your scrub on: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

"Thou shalt discontinue to own multiple bottles of product that are the same. In other words; do you really need 3 Victoria's Secret lotions, 2 from Bath and Body Works, and 1 Jergen's? In my experience most product surpluses begin to multiply, then collect dust, and become aged. Try to stick with a great moisturizer that's mostly unscented, because you don't need different scents competing with your Coco Chanel perfume. Same goes with shampoo and conditioner when you use other products for scent." -- Jenny Alva You can't feel guilty spending on these: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

"Thou shalt not forget that thy skin needs vitamins too. How will they benefit you? Here's the quick and dirty: Vitamin A will moisturize your skin, prevent clogged pores and acne, Vitamin C will increase collagen production and soften skin and Vitamin E repairs damage to the skin and help to fade acne scars or discolorations." -- AOL Shopping Get the vitamins your body needs with these: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

"Thou shalt leave the sunless tanner application to the experts or at least invest in a good brand that won't turn thyself orange. Forget the fact that there is nothing healthy about a tan, as it's our body's natural defense against trauma. But I get it--we want that bronzy, fresh off vacation look. So what's a girl to do? If you can't get in to see your esthetician, there are a lot of over the counter products that won't leave you looking like a terrifically yummy orange-glazed ham. Don't forget exfoliator is your friend. Without it you'll end up with patches of uneven color. Use a circular motion when applying self-tanner to achieve the most natural looking results." -- Tasha Manigo-Bizzell (Owings Mills, MD) Get the right glow with these products: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

"Thou shalt indulge in a milk bath once a week. You need to take time out for yourself and this is super cost-effective way to do it. If you're still not convinced, this will nourish and soften your dry skin like nothing else! Making your own milk bath is easy. Add 2-4 cups of milk to a warm bath and soak in it, scrubbing your skin in soft, circular motions using a loofah or washcloth. You can even add drops of almond oil and your favorite perfume as an extra treat." -- AOL Shopping Want something that's already prepared? Set up your spa at home in an instant with these: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
![]() |
"Thou shalt not purchase costly foot creams. All the fancy schmancy foot kits out there promise baby bottom soft feet. It's a shame they're all ridiculously expensive. Take it easy on your wallet and try Gold Bond Ultimate Softening Skin Therapy lotion. A dime sized amount of this thick cream and a pair of fresh socks is all you'll need to have flip flop ready feet." -- Brittany Chojnowski (Cleveland, Ohio) These foot treats are just the right price: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
![]() |
"Thou shalt lather thy body in Dead Sea mud. For skin that feels as soft as a baby's bum and looks young, healthy and wrinkle-free, I recommend applying a Dead Sea mud product such as a mask or body mud 1-2 times a week. Dead Sea mud, imported from Israel and Jordan, contains natural minerals that nourish and nurture the skin. I'm no muss, no fuss when it comes to beauty, but this is a must-have." -- Melody Serafino There are many dead sea mud products to fit anyone's budget: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
![]() |
"Thou shalt fight body acne by washing properly. Wash your back and chest thoroughly after rinsing out your shampoo and conditioner. This is the cause for body acne for some people. If body acne is a problem for you, remember to use mild soap on your body and avoid exfoliants, which might be too harsh on your skin. -- AOL Shopping Body acne cleansers will also help: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Gee, is it maybe a tad sacrilegious to be combining interesting snippets pertaining to our external beauty with a knock on The Ten Commandments? Completely unnecessary.

stop being so hyper conservative over religious things. Commandment does not belong to the bible or religion, it is a word appropriate for use in daily life. I am so tired of religious freaks getting touchy about everything! They are good advice if you have the money to spend, however drinking water and eating a raw vegan lifestyle, and exercising will produce a better result.

overly sensitive about a 'bible' statement (which it REALLY isn't), but a total snag the post before about how if your ugly you don't need beauty products bc they won't work. Hypocritical, just like most bible thumpers .
Lots of these I've tried and they really do work, dead sea mud is amazing and the brown sugar and oil works well to for gentle exfoliation~especially for feet.

Good grief people. Get a grip.
We all need to be more sensitive about the Bible. End of discussion.
Are lotions going to make you beautiful if you're ugly? Of course not. The truth. End of discussion.

Good for you if god actually existed and was more than a fairy tale told by ancient political leaders as a form of population control!

I have probably the least expensive answer to moisturizing dry skin. Keep a large jar of petroleum jelly (any kind will do), by your tub/shower. Before toweling off, while still wet, rub the jelly vigorously, all over your body, then dry with a towel. your skin will be baby soft.

if god really existed???? this is about ways to better your skin and take care of it..but don't do the if he existed...now your going in the direction of a bible study course here on a comment board for skin care...but don't say existed,,,he does exist..end of that..now on to the body care...
lord if only people would slow down and comment on the subject at hand and not put all these other comments in that have nothing to do with the subject,,,but when you state what you did...I always defend Jesus Christ at whatever cost it may be to me...I don't care...again now back to the subject...body care...

My name is Yvonne and I find the article very useful. First I love the organic feeling of the do it yourself beauty treatments with no harsh chemicals on your skin or down the drain. Also when one uses the natural home made remedy you can decide how much of a certain ingredient to add. Also not only does it save money but the home products actually contain larger portions of the wholesome ingredient of your choice! Economically the money you invest in your product stays more local as 50% of all beauty products are manufactured in other countries Last but not least you can actually reuse containers and jars over and over again preventing them from piling up in the landfills. Thank you for the beauty tips.Yvonne

I wouldn't be so quick to jump on the petroleum jelly tip that Ginny suggested. Even though we have all been led to believe that it is safe, the very name of it should make us take notice. Why would you want to rub any petroleum product on your skin? It absorbs everything! I don't even use lotion any more because its filled with chemicals. You don't rub Pine-sol on your skin do you? Of course not, because its chemeicals. Well, so is your lotion. Google your lotion's ingredients.....Scary!
replyI use olive oil and people always ask why my legs have such a nice sheen in the summer. Yes, it does feel a bit oily at first, but it will absorb. You get used to it, especially when you know its good for you.

You may want to research the word "petroleum" before you decide to slather
replyit on your body. What goes on your body , goes in your body.
Would you shower in gasoline? Peyroleum leaches the vitamins A,E,and K from your skin.

I'm glad I'm not the one cleaning the tub after using olive oil and sea salt in my bath. I think I'd be so sweaty after getting all the greasy residue off the tub that I'd have to take a second bath!

My grandmother used salt and olive oil every single day. When she died at 86, she had the bags that gravity provides, but not one single wrinkle graced her face. Her skin was beautiful. When she worked in her garden in the hot Mississippi sun, she covered her entire body head to foot and chastised me for tanning. I have since taken her advice with the olive oil and salt with amazing results. Of course, eating right had a lot to do with how she looked as well. No packaged foods, no fast foods, only garden grown, and very little meat.

This is embarrassing but here goes: For the last year I have had several bumps/sores come up on my rear. Seems like when I get one cleared up another one pops up. Any ideas on what might be causing this and what to do to rid of the ugly things?

I found a great way to exfoliate my chapped lips. I place a small dab of toothpaste on my toothbrush, dip it in regular granulated sugar to coat the toothpaste. I then brush the toothpaste and sugar mixture onto my lips gently for about 30 seconds. Rinse well with warm water. Your lips will feel amazing! I do this once a week.
