Are Silly Bandz Trendy or Just Plain Silly?

Zhu Zhu Pets were the must-have toys during the holiday season but now it seems like the tide has shifted to Silly Bandz. They are the latest craze among kids across the nation. Not familiar with them? Well, let me bring you up to speed. They are colorful rubber band bracelets that come in various themes like Disney and Baseball. When your kids wear them, they transform into bracelets but once they are removed, they automatically spring back to their original shape.

A pack of 24 is about $5 - $13. Kids from elementary to high school wear, collect and trade them. Apparently they are so popular that some toy stores can't keep them on the shelves. There's even a Facebook page with over 200,000 people that 'like' it. Who knew?!

With their low price point and all of the creative themes, I'm not surprised Silly Bandz are so popular. If you're thinking about purchasing them, I say go for it! As you noticed in our video, the kids seem to really enjoy playing with them. My only suggestion is to discourage your kids from trading Silly Bandz in school and summer camp (I hear that they can be a distraction). One of my co-workers also suggested that parents invest in Ziploc bags to store them in. What a good idea! A pack of 24 can be easily lost.
