The Beach Essential We Couldn't Live Without: Wonder Wheeler

Last week, I wrote up a piece on some Beach Essentials For You and Your Kids. I was packing for a beach trip and was thinking of all the items I couldn't live without on the beach with two growing boys.

One major item I forgot in the review that I was reminded of was our Wonder Wheeler. I'm shocked to have forgotten it on my initial list, because after having spent the weekend at the beach, I'm considering it one of my top beach essentials.

For years, I saw people using these carts on the beach and to be honest, thought they looked a little stupid. I thought they seemed like a waste of money when you can clearly cart all the items you need without the help of a tool such as this. How wrong I was.

Last year, after reading a particularly glowing review on the Wonder Wheeler, I thought I'd give it a try and see what all the fuss was about. While I *can* get to the beach without the Wonder Wheeler, having it makes our life so much easier.
This beach cart is so worth the money. You can hang folding beach chairs off of it, not to mention the mesh bag that holds all of the sand toys and items you may need while you're playing at the beach. The mesh part of it is fabulous of course too since you can toss sandy toys in and the sand just falls out of the bottom of the cart as you roll it back off the beach.

Where it used to take both my husband and I to lug all of our items down to the beach (sometimes in two trips), now just one of us can get our entire load down the beach with the Wonder Wheeler. Get it at various retailers for $52.99. Shop around because shipping can be hefty on this heavier product.

My father built something similar to this to carry all of his fishing gear. He used bicycle tires, a lawnmower handle and various other items he found either in his garage or on the curb. That "beach buggy" went in loose sand, wet sand and through water. He could wash it at the beach shower. He hung his chairs, fishing poles, bait bucket, tackle box...all his gear easily. And it didn't cost him anything but his time to put it together!! All his fishing buddies made themselves a "beach buggy". Re-use, Reduce, Recycle!!

These Wonder Wheelers are fantastic and I wonder what took so long to invent them? I could have used one twenty-five years ago when I headed off to the beach with four kids. My husband and I lugged the heavy chairs and coolers, the older children took beadch bags or large water toys and the youngest children carried pails and shovels. Everybody brought something to and from the beach which was a hassle especially when the parking spot was a hike from our desired spot on the beach. Then after an ideal day on the beach we had to pack all the crap up again and repeat the process. I see these Wonder Wheelers in stores everywhere as well as being wheeled on the beach and marvel at them. I sure wish I had one when my kids were young and I bet they do, too!

I bought one of these last year, and absolutely love it. It's so easy to pull through the sand, and carries EVERYTHING. I can fit 4 beach chairs, cooler, towels, blankets, sand toys, and beach umbrella - and still have room for more. Prior to buying this, I used the kids wagon to carry everything, which was impossible to use in the sand. This item is WELL worth your $$!!!!

I must say another must-have is the KYSS (Keep Your Stuff Safe) Bag! The KYSS Bag has a Safe Tote Security System, which consists of a theft-deterrent security lock that not only locks the bag closed but, if one chooses, also allows the owner to actually lock the bag to another item (or multiple items), such as a chair, cooler, bench, lifeguard stand, playground equipment, a carriage or stroller, tree, etc., both easily and discreetly. It is great for keeping small children (or "big" children, for that matter!) from getting into things in your bag. It is also no easy target for a potential thief trying to rifle through your bag or casually pick it up and run!
