Wizard Wall: The Portable Dry Erase Whiteboard For Business Travelers

Let's say that you're preparing for your next presentation and you have your flash drive, laptop and projector ready. These are great tools but what about the times when you're brainstorming or when you want to make your presentation pop in or out of the office?

Wizard Wall is the brainchild of entrepreneur, Mike Fogarty. I recently caught up with him to learn more about it. Read on to get the inside scoop.

VH: The name Wizard Wall is unique. How did you come up with it?
MF: I wanted a name that was somewhat generic but memorable, that also conveys the "magic" of the technology that enables the Wizard Wall™ film to easily reposition, and cling on either side, without the need for tape, pins and nails Since there are so many end uses for Wizard Wall, a descriptive name (like Wizardly Whiteboard) might limit its appeal.

VH: Can you explain how you developed the concept?
MF: For the past 25 years, I've been in the paper and printing industry, as a salesman. I've seen many changes in the paper industry, yet relatively few innovations. When I came across the Cling Z® film, which is the specifically converted film for Wizard Wall, I immediately saw the potential for this innovative product to be big and to work out a unique partnership with ClingZ to develop the Wizard Wall line of proprietary products.
I realized the film had hundreds of end-uses and could be used by a variety of different people in a variety of different professions, from meeting planners, to teachers, to students, to parents, you name it. I also wanted to make it easy to transport the product, so I developed the Wizard Wall™ Tote Box system, which includes a storage area and two mailing tubes allowing your work to be saved and unrolled at another time. The days of using tape, pins or nails are behind us. Wizard Wall allows people to turn any indoor surface into their instant collaboration, planning and presentation tool.

VH: How have your customers responded so far?
MF: Customers love Wizard Wall products and as we predicted, they are using it for a variety of applications. We have been contacted by an owner of a meeting planning company and an owner of an association management company who both raved about how productive their meetings and collaborative sessions were when they used Wizard Wall. They are now insisting that Wizard Wall be available at all of their events. A software development company said they solved a complex issue by using Wizard Wall because their developers were able to reposition their work in colleagues' offices, in what they called "roving collaboration". Because the product is safe, and doesn't contain any dangerous chemicals, it is being used in health care and food service industries as well. Teachers, planners and coaches are also finding use for Wizard Wall. In addition, we keep getting feedback regarding different home arts and crafts uses, so we are developing a line of products that will be sold in retail outlets.

VH: What is something that people don't know about Wizard Wall?
MF: Business travel is back on the rise again, generating more than two million jobs in the U.S., according to the U.S. Travel Association. More and more companies are trying to make up from the impact of a downed economy with face to face client interaction. Wizard Wall is ideal for traveling out in the field, meeting, collaborating and establishing potential new clients and partnerships.

VH: About how many Wizard Walls have been sold so far?
MF: We opened for business a couple of months ago, so we are ramping up sales and we have our manufacturing and shipping supply chain humming now. Most of our orders ship the same day they are entered.

VH: I hear that you're located in the Washington, DC metro area. Are the products manufactured here as well?
MF: We have a national supply chain, with convertors and component manufacturers in different states. The assembly, warehousing and shipping is done in Richmond, VA.

VH: Is Wizard Wall on Facebook or Twitter?
MF: Currently, my team and I are focused on sales and revamping our web site, so when a consumer is ready to buy, they can do so with ease. Using the various new media platforms available today is definitely something we will consider down the road.

VH: What's on the horizon for Wizard Wall?
MF: Continuing to create momentum is what's in store for Wizard Wall. There's truly no other product out there like Wizard Wall. My goal has always been to provide an easy, safe, and cost effective alternative paper product, and Wizard Wall is it! I think through word of mouth, the product will sell itself, so my team is focused on sharing this product with others, from groups of people we think will find Wizard Wall useful to aligning ourselves with partners who believe in this product as well. I haven't met one person who has come across Wizard Wall and can't find a creative and ideal use for it.
