Back to school styles may come and go, but denim will always be in, whether you're at daycare in
Huggies Jeans, or lounging in your comfy
Pajama Jeans after school. Whether dressed up or down, a figure-flattering, fashionable pair of jeans (like the pictured
Kymaro Curve Control Jeans for $39.99) can be a girl's best friend and a new pair is on most of our
back to school shopping lists! However, a flaw-enhancing pair can be our worst enemy! Discover the denim that's dazzling on your body for back to school and pick the perfect pair of
jeans for your genes using this handy guide. Whether you're a teen totally stoked about seventh grade or an adult going back to get your degree, do you think these picks are right or wrong? Let me know in the comments whether I passed or failed Jeans 101!
Body Genes: Apple-Shaped
Unflattering cuts of denim that slash right into round stomachs, causing belly rolls and muffin tops can be quite the distressor!
Best Jeans: Boot Cut
If you're an apple, avoid low-rise jeans as they will simply accentuate tummy troubles. Instead, balance out bigger stomachs without adding to the bulge with a boot-cut. Buy jeans like these
AG Adriano Goldschmied Mid-Rise Angel Boot Cut Jeans ($149.60).
Body Genes: Petite
Petite ladies often have to worry about being overwhelmed by too-big or baggy jeans, with good reason. Shorter women wearing the wrong jeans can find themselves swimming in their pants instead of swimming in compliments.
Best Jeans: Straight Leg
Avoid boot-cut or cuffed jeans - these styles make short legs look stumpy. Shorter individuals look best in straight legs. Buy jeans like these
Eileen Fisher Organic Cotton Straight-Leg Jeans ($84).
Body Genes: Flat-Bottomed
Unforgiving denim fabric cause women with a flat rear undue stress, as jeans can tend to leave nothing to the imagination – especially if there isn't anything there already!
Best Jeans: Back Flaps or Pockets
Denim without pockets or designs should be avoided. Pockets and flaps back there give tiny tushes the illusion of a bigger backside. Buy jeans like these
Big Star Liv Flap Jeans ($88-$148).
Body Genes: Boyish Figure
When there's little difference between your bust, waist, and hips, finding jeans that don't accentuate this fact can be difficult.
Best Jeans: Skinny
Because they adhere closely to the body, making calves and hips look wider (in a good way) , skinny jeans are flattering to boyish, rectangular figures. Buy jeans like these
Modern Amusement Skinny Jeans ($48.99).
Body Genes: Plus-Sized
Bigger girls need beautiful bottoms, too! Looking in the regular jeans section can be frustrating for an ample woman – for a perfect 18 in dresses to find out she can't even get a pair of 20 jeans above knees can be a blow to the ego!
Best Jeans: Plus-Sized
Instead of 'regular' jeans that are usually cut slimmer, plus-sized jeans are designed specifically for proportionately larger women, with extra room for extraordinary assets. Buy jeans like these
Just My Size Modern Boot Cut Plus Sized Jeans ($12).
Body Genes: Pear-Shaped
It's easy to visually pack pounds onto pear-shaped women, making it tough to find jeans that fit the rear and still look great.
Best Jeans: Flared
Decorated denim pockets should be declared illegal by pear-shaped women looking to minimize their most protruding body part. Flared jeans, on the other hand, create continuous curves that are flattering to larger rears. Buy jeans like these
Old Navy Rinse Mid-Rise Flared Jeans ($19).
Body Genes: Tall Women
You might have height but you're sometimes short on flattering denim choices. Impossible inseams and improper cuts follow en-heightened women like the plague.
Best Jeans: Wide-Legged
While Capri and flared jeans tend to look silly on longer legs, wide-legged jeans look great and offer a superb shape. Buy jeans like these
Newport News Tall Womens Extra Wide-Leg Clean Jeans ($29).

So what do you do if you're petite, pear-shaped, AND a size 16/18? I'd wager a guess that most people fall into more than one category.

There is a new brand of jeans that are absolutely fabulous for curvy shaped women of all sizes. The brand is Little in the Middle, and this jeans line caters to all sizes of women that have a hour glass or pear shaped figure. One of the most interesting thing that it does; is that it is sized one size smaller in the waist than in the hips, so it eliminates that awful gap in the back of your jeans that let your rear end hang out while seated while offering a great fit.

I agree what a lot of what you said, but have a bigg issue with many of the washes on the jeans. Unless you're pin thin and tall, no one looks good in a light wash - especially when it's uneven like what was recommended for "apple shapes".

dark wash, straight legg - not pegged in, but straight and no low rise. The leggs look like columns when you hold them up.

You may be right.................but I have to say today the jeans out there are horrible................I remember back in the day when Mavi and Guess fit me like a glove because they were mid-rise and the stretch was perfect they would never bag out but yet they were so comfortable..............now when I go to buy those jeans or any other jeans they're mostly either low-rise, the zipper's are one inch, they stretch out, or they will fit great just about everywhere but the back pops out so you need a belt............I hardly ever like to where belts. I am not even sure if my shape is curvy or pear-shaped but I don't think it matters the body type as much as the jeans they make today which are in my opinion made for undeveloped or 0 size models.

OK, so I'm plus size, tall, but legs are only 28 inches, flat rear. So what do I wear? Tis a puzzle!

I AM a classic pear shape and have never been able to wear Old Navy jeans. I have tried on many styles and am always disappointed. A pear needs Lee, Dockers, or Liz Claiborne. Any other ideas? I would love to hear from you. I have the classic small waist and bigger butt, hips, and thighs......sigh.

Plus size...you sound like me...Lee Riders slendering stretch jeans. They are great. They fit like a glove and feel so cozy. Try them, I think you will like 'em.

It took years for me to find good fitting jeans. Finally!! This year I discovered "Not Your Daughters Jeans. I'm 5'6" and weight 157 lbs. Not exactly thin. Ladies give them a try. They just might be the Jeans for you. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the input on jeans; I saw something similar on the Today Show today. I am confused because I am an Apple, but short, and a plus size. I tried pants on at CJ Banks the other day (the plus size store) and neither size fit me. I don't know what stores to look for.

Ew! I hate wide-legged jeans! All the old ladies wear them, and it makes them look like theyre walking on stilts!! Tall ladies, wear whatever you want.

Uh...yes, you can go wrong with bootcut, Gail.
replyAs for me, I've always loved the mid-rise, bootcut on my body pear-shaped bod. Good job in guessing in that category.
Unless, you're a teeny-meeny, everyone should stay away from low-rise. They pop that muffin top on anybody and make your butt look bigger.

It's ridiculous to tell full-figured women to buy full-figured jeans. Better advice would have been to share that even full figured women have distinct body types that should be observed. Just because they sell "skinny jeans" in a size 24, does not mean it's a great fashion statement for a sized 24 woman.
