The last 3 are good.. priced well for something that will be in a dorm room.. accidents happen so I wouldn't think you would want to spend 500 on a college kids stereo.. plus thefts can be an issue. Good article here with advice about what you need for a college dorm and what you can leave at home:

Hey what about Klipsch's LightSpeaker system? Put them into two lamps, hook up your iPod and you've got a complete and totally hidden system. I have some and they sound awesome.

The best small radio stereo cd player that I ever owned is the Bose. Its not cheap but if you want amazing soud quality in a very compact package. The front loading Bose wave radio cannot be beat. I love mine.

Those Bose units suck...if you're going to throw good money for one of those, bite the bullet and upgrade to a B&O system that you'll have forever.

My mother bought a bose years ago. I didn't think it was that grand. I bought one just to save space and hooked it to my satellite, I love it. If it were to break I would run out and buy another one. No regrets I don't know why this seems to sound much better.

Let me get this straight...the Bose Wave Music System is "The king of all stereo systems" ? That's the most ridiculous and unfounded comment I've EVER read. Bose is OK at best. Nobody who's ever heard truly good speakers would EVER make such a ridiculous statement about this overpriced clock-radio being the king of all stereos. It's really sad that the traditional hi-fi/electronics stores have almost completely disappeared; people now choose audio equipment based on marketing campaigns (that's where most of Bose's investment goes, by the way) rather than how they actually sound. Here is a very interesting article about Bose: http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html
