As we begin to ease into fall, we're looking ahead to rich, neutral makeup palettes. Both are in perfect harmony with one another, thanks to a spate of glorious color collections designed to complement the season's dramatic mood.
The best part about this is that it's not really a trend at all! Anyone can wear the season's hottest hues, which range from natural skin tones (think beige, taupe and ivory) to soft, universally flattering tones (like chocolate and pink).
If you want to get an early start, feel free - these colors aren't necessarily married to fall, and they look great year round. Here are some neutral makeup finds we're loving:
Set the tone with a sweep of this rich NARS eye shadow in new
Coconut Grove ($23). Heavily pigmented, it's the perfect addition to a makeup collection that lacks a truly intense, in-your-face brown. Keep the rest of your look low key if you're using this for a smoky eye; it's dark, dark, dark, and it looks incredible with flushed cheeks and a neutral lip.
Be the belle of the ball (or the Halloween party) with an eye shadow more sparkly, like the new
Laura Mercier Sequin Eye Colour ($22). No messing around here - this stuff may glide on with delicate innocence, but in its wake leaves behind a sparkly sheen and deep color. We like this sterling finish, or choose from violet and teal.
Not even a mention of fall 2010 would be complete without a look at the stunning
Urban Decay Naked Palette ($44). An instant classic, this sleek palette houses 12 eye shadows in neutral shades that are anything but basic. Go soft and sweet with delicate nudes and bronzes, or achieve a dramatic look with metallic-flecked browns and grays. You also get a deluxe mini tube of the best-selling Primer Potion!
Stila introduces its
Custom Color Blush ($20) just in time for the season. This unique, pH-balanced powder is formulated to react to your skin tone and unique pH. The result? Your own personalized shade of pink, perfect for a radiant fall glow.
The perfect pout is easy to achieve with the new
tarte LipSurgence natural lip stain ($24). In six colors that range from light pink to deep berry, this unique formula contains healing ingredients, like peppermint oil and vitamin C, for a moisturizing boost of antioxidants and long-lasting color.
Whether you're getting all glammed up or not, a pretty manicure is a must. Try the limited edition
Dior Vernis in Cherry Flower ($21). This sweet, pinky-mauve hue is shot with shimmer for a more playful finish, yet it's soft and neutral enough to wear day in and day out.

Some of these prices are simply outrageous! $24 for lipstick that looks like it came out of a box of Crayola crayons? Give me a break!

$150 and change to buy all the products mentioned. Obscene. Just obscene, with all the need in the world. Think of how many puppies and kittens could be fed at a shelter with $150, or a nice donation of baby formula to a food pantry. No problem with buying this sh*t for the high maintenance McMansion princess, though, because she's so worth it, lol.
