It is far better to give than to receive, but it can be downright stressful trying to buy for someone when you are not sure what they like. And, if you have been in a toy store recently, you will know that it is very easy to get overwhelmed by all of the toy options that are out there.
As you begin your holiday shopping, here is a list of the top toys by age. The age brackets are designed to give you an idea of the types of toys that may be appropriate. Of course, you know your loved one best of all so if you see a toy that may be enjoyed by someone a little older or younger than our suggestion, don't let our age recommendations stop you. Some of my oldest daughters favorite toys are things that are "meant" for her younger sister and brother.
Check out our list of toys by age. Whether you need to buy a gift for an easy to buy for infant or your favorite, but picky tween, you should be able to find a few gift ideas below for any age. If you find this list useful, be sure to pass it along to your friends and family. 'Tis the season to shop and share!
I read about the incredible bargains that people were getting from the online penny auction sites and thought they had to be scams. The one that has the best deals is http://bit.ly/TopBargainAuctions and I checked with the Better Business Bureau and was told that it is all legit. How they can sell gift cards, laptops, cameras, and all kinds of goodies that we all want for 50-90% off, I don't know. I do know that I bought my son an iPad there for less than $100 and my husband a $250 Loews gift cards for $48. Why would I even think about buying my Christmas gifts anyplace else?
A great gift for any age is a personalized jigsaw puzzle. I bought several. They come in different piece size for the younger kids up to regular size pieces for the older ones. I got one of my parent wedding and sent it to them without the personalize label. Can you imagine their surprise when they realize what the photo is. The following site makes them for a great price and ships them out fast.
I think kids have expectations that are too high. Kids should be put to work. Not too early, mind you, but right around nine or ten years old, a kid could be given a factory shift. Three days a week at a factory, then three days a week in school, and one day off. That would toughen 'em up. No more whining. As for Xmas presents, a new pair of work boots every year.
I can count on one hand the items from ALL these lists put together that I would even CONSIDER buying for my kids (ages 4, 11, and 12). Most is pure, commercially over-advertised CRAP. My 12yo (boy) wants a mini donut maker (he loves to bake) and ice cream maker ball that you roll and play with until the ice cream freezes. My 4yo is getting a bunch of clothes for her baby dolls, and a custom created set of Crayola crayons (heavy on the pink!) that I saw you can purchase on their website. Off the top of my head, I forget what my 11yo mentioned, but it for sure wasn't any peer-driven, media-driven garbage, like most of the above lists.
Toys "R" Us is supposed to have some deals coming up.. our local Wal Mart is pretty good too, if you go at night when the traffic goes down. Groupon.com and GlowShopper.com are good for deals. I got a $200 gift card on GlowShopper for $25. Also, Target's prices go down mid December.

Take it from a geek (and no, I don't get paid to advertise on here), the PS3 is the best gadget I've bought in years. It plays games, DVDs, Blu Ray Discs, Streams Netflix, Hulu, & is a lot easier to set up and use than a media computer. Best nerd gift ever and the whole family will like it!
