Hot Toys for 2010: Last Year's ______ is This Year's ______

Every year there is a new must-have toy and every year my kids manage to find one of the most popular, hardest to find toys and make it center stage on their wish lists. This year, my husband and I did not want to disappoint so we headed out early in search of the hot toys for 2010.

Do you remember the frenzy that surrounded last year's Zhu Zhu pets? It was really something to behold. Leading up to the Holidays, I remember seeing Zhu Zhu pets everywhere and then once Holiday shopping started, finding a Zhu Zhu pet was akin to finding a needle in a haystack.

Thankfully, this year we came up with a list so that you can get everything that is on your child's wish list without having to use military-like strategies to do it. Our guide may be able to give you some insight into what your child may like. If they were into Moxie Girlz last year, this year, make room in their toy bin for adorable Lalaloopsy Dolls. If they could not get enough of the family's Wii Fit Plus, you may want to look into a Kinect.

Check out our list of what was hot last year and what is now guaranteed to be the on the list of hot toys for 2010.

Toys Under $40
Last Year: Air Hogs Micro Zero Gravity Laser | This Year: Paper Jamz
This guitar features a razor-thin, stringless design for easy handling for young kids. The guitar has bold graphics and integrated buttons that offer an authentic look and feel. Graphics technology is embedded in the body of the guitar and controls audio output with a touch-sensitive mechanism that responds to strumming. Your child can be an instant rock star with the guitar's internal speaker, three unique hit songs and four modes for jamming.

Last year: Elmo Tickle Hands | This Year: Fisher-Price Dance Star Mickey

Move over, Elmo! This year it is all about Mickey Mouse. Fisher Price's Dance Star Mickey talks, walks and dances to his own beats. He can do cool dance moves, including the Moonwalk. He sings 6 different songs and has 2 interactive games. He will make the perfect gift for any child who loves Mickey Mouse, IF you can catch him. This little guy is almost impossible to find, although we were able to find some at Amazon.

Last year: Apple iPod Nano | This Year: Apple iPod Nano 6Th generation

Another year another awesome iPod. Apple's iPod Nano 6Th generation is smaller and lighter than ever. You can clip it to your sleeve, jacket, or running shorts and keep your favorite songs at your fingertips. There is a Genius feature (helps you select your favorite music), a built-in FM radio, pedometer, and a multi-touch display that lets you tap the screen to play what you want.

Last year: Polly Pockets| This Year: Squinkies

Squinkies are little tiny toys that come in a bubble pack with individual plastic bubbles (very similar to the plastic bubbles that you see in those little vending machines at the grocery store.) You cannot see the Squinkies inside of the bubbles until you open the bubble and then the Squinkies fun begins. You can buy different accessories and play sets for your Squinkies for even more fun.

Last year: Lego Bionicle Kaxium | This Year: Lego Imperial Star Destroyer

The infamous Imperial Star Destroyer, is now in midi-scale! Appearing for the very first time in the opening scene of the first Star Wars movie, this is the Empire's most powerful warship and one of the most recognizable in the series. If you have a kid who loves Star Wars and loves Legos this is THE gift to give.

Toys $50-$100

Last Year: Zhu Zhu Pets | This Year: Sing-A-Ma-Jigs

Sing-A-Ma-Jigs are offbeat characters that set off unexpected laughter and excitement with every interaction. The Sing-A-Ma-Jigs enjoy nothing more than singing together, and just to prove it, they harmonize with each other in perfect pitch every time. The more you collect, the larger the chorus. Their looks are unique to them, and when they sing you can't resist laughing when their little mouths open wide for each note!

Last Year: MindFlex | This Year: Spy Net Video Watch

If you have a future investigator on your hands they are going to love the Spy Net Video Watch. The watch secretly records video, audio and photos and can record and playback over 20 minutes of video or over 2000 photos or over 4 hours of audio. You can upload evidence and download video missions. There is even a lie detector that allows you to instantly analyze your recordings.

Last Year: Wii Fit Plus | This Year: Kinect

Kinect is the hot new game console accessory that eliminates the need for a controller. The game basically turns your body into the controller so playing games becomes totally realistic. The Kinect senses, interprets, and responds to your natural movements and hand gestures with its camera and it allows for you to play beside someone with ease. The Kinect is very smart; it uses advanced technology to respond to your voice and allows you to do different things like watching your library of HD movies, listening to music, or watching different sports through Xbox LIVE or ESPN on Xbox 360. The Kinect is fun for all ages.

Last Year: Moxie Girlz | This Year: Lalaloopsy Dolls

The Lalaloopsy Dolls are rag dolls that magically come to life, taking on the personalities of the fabrics that were used to make them. They live in a colorful, silly world, and it's your job to keep the magic of their world alive. They include an adorable pet, a promise certificate and a collectible poster. These dolls are a welcome change to a lot of dolls out there that are marketed toward little girls but certainly don't look little girlish. If your little one likes dolls, she will love these!

Unless you've got kids, not much worth investing in on this list. I would give serious consideration to the Kinect device.

I think the lalaloopsy dolls are adorable BUT not really rag dolls. bodies are hard plastic, would be sooo much cuter if they were soft .

I do not understand the wii mess. Give them a football and tell them to actually GO OUTSIDE and play in REALITY, not inside virtually. And the dolls are quite ugly. And why the hell would you give a child a device for spying on people????? Hello! Learn to respect privacy????? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I'm a grandma in my early 50's working part time at a toy store during the Christmas season. Both children and adults love Singamajigs! I've gotten 4 for my 18 month old grandson, but my 26 year old daughter and I love to play with them, too! At the store we have trouble keeping Dance Star Mickey and Lalaloopsy dolls in stock, but we keep getting more in. Paper Jamz guitars are another thing we run out of all the time. But guess what, we also have "regular" toys like blocks, dolls that don't do much on their own, assorted balls, toy cars, planes and boats. For the science child, how about a chemistry set, microscope or telescope? And of course, the classic easy bake oven or Incredible Edibles (to make edible insects). Parents, don't expect your child to use his or her imagination unless you use yours!

Squinkies are junk, my daughter got some for her birthday in august barely even played with them and their faces (the paint or whatever it is) rubbed off since they are made out of some rubbery type of material the paint stuff just swipes right off. They are expensive too and they are not worth it. I wouldn't buy these again.

Most of these toys look like pretty good choices for presents. The only problem I have is with the Sing-a-ma-jig. My husband once bought a blow-up-doll as a gag gift for a bachelor party. The Sing-a-ma-jig looks like on of those, only ment for kids. Not only that, it looks cheaply made and is very ugly.

Zoobles are way better then Squinkies and Paper Jamz is about as stupid as Zhu Zhu were last year. #1 kids will be choking on these little Squinkies because parents these days are lazy and wont pick up after the older kids, second the first time little Johnie gets mad at brother Timmy because he wont share his Paper Jamz it will end up getting broke in half ,Zoobles are very colorful and collectable and my kids love them..
