Do NOT buy an HP. They will not stand by their product if you have problems and need to have repaired. I had to send a 9 month old Pavillion back 7 times in 6 months. Not only was I treated rudely but obviously the pc was never repaired properly, even came back worse a couple of times. In the end they swapped out a $350. Compac for my $800. HP. Ripped off!

I've had 4 desktops and one lap top brand of HP and didnt have too much problems.
Although, when I bought the products I was sure to buy the extra warranty service the
store sells because most of the time their techs can solve problems without having to
send the whole thing back out to another state or even Country ("God forbid!"). I remember one desktop I purchased at bestbuy (an HP) for quite alot of money, and
within the second day it started acting up. It became too much for me or hubby to figure out so after calling bestbuy servicing dept., the came right out and fixed the problem right in my own home! That was the beauty of it, not having to leave my home for them to diagnost it, and then fix it and then repair it. Next time, make sure the store has a warranty themselves like I described. If they don't, find another store. Best Buy did at the time. Good Luck!

There are so many choices between netbooks below $300 and Laptops below $500, but, I stick with HP or Apple. I used to like Sony but their Vaio line is overpriced.

I would like to find a computer maker with good customer service but I have not found one yet. When called the first thing they all want is money, and it would be nice to talk to someone who speaks understandable English! Anyone has a suggestion?

Stay away from the HP pavilion models. I bought two of the most expensive models and they didn't last 2 years. They overheat and fried the graphics boards. I had one repaired and it didn't last a month. The repair company said they had 7 more of the same models with the same problems. I have two Sony Vaios and they have been going strong for seven years with no problems with heavy daily use. For me the reliability is worth the extra money.

My big complaint about HP Pavilion is that it comes loaded with much useless c--p that it wastes disk and memory space; most of the "freebies" aren't free at all. It's just another way to snag a few more bucks--Norton, MS Office ad infinitum. All I wanted was the HW and the OS.

I agree about the Dell computers. I have a Dell desktop that is three years old and I've never had a problem with it. I now have two Dell laptops. One is an XPS and one is an Inspiron. I hope Dell never goes out of business. I've called Dell one time and they were very courteous to me. I'll never buy anything else but Dell.

I recently bought a new Asus laptop and bought one of their desktops almost a year ago, as I have come to hate and despise HP products and customer service. It was under $700 for either of the machines and I love them. I highly recommend the Asus computers for just about anyone.

It seems as though someone has had problems with each of the above listed desktops, laptops, tablets, etc. I've had an HP....don't want another one. I've had 3 Dells....problems with all 3. Currently, my Dell Inspiron comes on all by itself. I've had a Toshiba....it used to shut off all by itself, while I was using it. Also, the Toshiba used to get so hot, I had to wear gloves to use it, because it would burn the hell out of my fingers and palms. My point is.....there is no "excellent" computer/laptop. They will all fail you at one time or another. Good luck. I hate this Dell I am on right now.

replyI think you are so right, there doesnt seem to be any "Good" computer's out there
anymore. Most of those companies, all the do want is "more money outta our pockets"
I think those computer companies know this, and manufacture the computer products
like that...to fail. Unless of course , you "" Buy their excellent fan at $150 bucks" so yu dont burn your fingers. Oh , and does any Californians know that when you buy any computer or computer product, that we MUST pay a recycle/redemption TAX now on those products?? I guess what they are sayiing is Californians lead the way in making
computer component waste products. (How much does China pay for these "waste" products to have them shipped to their country so their workers can dismantle them and remove precious parts from them worth lots of money?? Can anyone answer that,....honesty?

FALSE STATEMENT: "Toshiba makes great computers, that typically will last you for many years."
replyMy Toshiba Satellite lasted exactly 14 months ... 7 weeks beyond the warranty. It crashed several times before the final crash due to incompatibility with the MS Windows updates. The couple crashes that happened while the laptop was still under warranty lead me to the conclusion to NEVER TO BUY A TOSHIBA BECAUSE THEIR SUPPORT IS THE WORST I HAVE EVER DELT WITH. This people were flat out idiots who could care less about customer satisfaction! I do not stay that lightly or frivilously and not to be mean-spirited. It was just plain fact every time I had to deal with them. BEWARE OF THE TOSHIBA SATELLITE. Bottom-line: My Toshiba Satellite laptop was a total lemon and the supposed 'support' was worthless and could care less.
