Trend Watch: Cat's Eye Sunglasses

Meow! Proof that everything old is new again: cat's eye sunglasses are absolutely The Shades to Have this summer. Their vintage style is a fabulous, fashionable flashback, exuding a retro 1960s appeal that looks so fresh and chic today. In addition to protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays, these sunglasses are incredibly ladylike, so they're the perfect antithesis to large, square shapes and basic round frames that, while cool, are much more basic.

Kate Spade shows how it's done with these Franca sunglasses (from $89.99). They're so pretty in luminous champagne, but it's those cleverly shaped frames that really hog the spotlight.

Take your affinity for this silhouette to the extreme with these attention-grabbing tortoiseshell cat's eye sunglasses by Squint Topshop ($45). These have such a Euro-chic vibe, just perfect for channeling a hint of the glamorous '60s.

A little color never hurts! The purveyors of cool shades, Ray-Ban offers its Ray-Ban RB4163 Cat Eye Sunglasses ($129) in blue, red and this too-fabulous plum/gray combo.

Topped by a tortoiseshell bar, these Elizabeth and James Monroe Sunglasses ($225) call attention to the silhouette with their unique shape. Since they're so exaggerated, they feel much more modern - and look right at home with a trendy boho look.

"Cat's Eye" glasses were a 50's trend. The 60's look was more the oversized sunglass style, a la Jackie Kennedy.

You took the words right out of my mouth. They were definitely from the 50's. I know, I lived it :)

You hit the nail on the head. These are NOT cat's eye glasses. Back to the drawing board they go.

I was thinking the same thing! I almost wondered if they put the wrong photos with the article, but then saw that the names of the glasses included the term Cats Eye.

My cats eye glasses were small, with pink tips! Nothing like these photos!

These are the modern version of cat eyes. But, who would know the difference, right? Thats what they were hoping.
