It's an instant outfit-maker for your jeans and tee, the coat you wear every day or your wear-anywhere tank dress, but scarves can be fussy, especially if you aren't sure how to wear them. Want to rock a cute scarf but don't want to end up looking like an extra from Designing Women
? Here are five chic ways to pull it off.
1. Belt a pashmina
Has your aunt ever gone on vacation and brought you back a pashmina? Or maybe you "borrowed" one out of your mom's closet, but never could figure out what to do with it? Pashmina's may not be trendy, but they can be chic if you drape one over your neck, then add a belt over it to hold it in place and give it a more tailored appearance. The best part? You don't even have to tie it!
This blogger from Wear on Earth shows us a great example.
2. Wrap it up
Find a long, full scarf and wrap it around your neck to get that hippie Vanessa Hudgens look we adore so much. Drape the scarf evenly around your neck, then loosely wrap each side around your neck once. The key is to make sure you don't wrap it too tight, and to leave the ends uneven for an effortlessly chic look.
Jessica Alba does this one all the time.
3. Go Parisan
The Parisan loop and pull is probably the easiest way to tie a carf, and it looks super chic. We suggest thicker scarves for this look-- the kind that actually keep you warm. Simply fold it in half, drape it over your neck and pull the ends through the loop.

4. Long and Loose
A busy fashionista on the go doesn't always have time for trivial activities like tying her scarf. After all, it looks just fine hanging loosely. Find a scarf in a fun color or print and a light, flowing fabricadn just let if hang off your neck.
Kim Kardashian makes this look effortlessly glam.
5. Drape it
Too cold for tank tops, too hot for a jacket: early fall is one of the trickiest times of year to dress for. Instead of constantly putting on and taking off your trench, just drape your scarf across your shoulders for a chic take on coverage in the windy season.
