Stylist on a Soapbox: SkinnyShirt

When wearing a collared shirt under a sweater, I look most like the girl on the left where my shirt is bunched up in the torso area and up and down both arms. It is not a pretty picture, and honestly, the look probably adds pounds on me. It is also actually uncomfortable because my sweaters end up fitting too tightly for the bulky shirt I have on. Thus, I usually avoid the look completely, which is unfortunate because I do love the "pulled together" look. Recently, upon happenstance (or maybe it was fashion fate), I was online and stumbled on the Skinnyshirt. Immediately, I thought: Why didn't I think of this?! After some momentary sulking, I looked into the product and was won over.

The SkinnyShirt is the result of combining your staple, button-front, collared shirt with a stretchy camisole. The inventor of the product, a mom of 4, adored the look of a crisp collar underneath a great sweater and thought, why not replace the body of her favorite shirt with something less bulky? Therefore, the body of the shirt is made of a stretchy, knit fabric (90% nylon, 10% spandex). The shirt is smooth and sleek against your figure and comfortable -- just like your favorite layering tank! Without the usual bulk, you'll definitely look slimmer in this, too! There are three versions: the Classic and the Teen, which come in a sleeveless or longsleeve, and the Maternity. The Classic and Maternity shirts come in a variety of colors and prints. Plus-sizes are also available in all the Classic shirts.

I want to say this will likely be my favorite fashion invention of the year. I am sold on the Classic White Solid SkinnyShirt. I would put it to such good use, as I'm sure many of you would too. At $68 (the long-sleeve and some of the prints are a little bit more expensive), I think the SkinnyShirt is adequately priced. A good quality button-front collared shirt, is equivalent in price, maybe more. Plus, the collared shirt under a sweater or cardigan (you could also do a dress, crew-neck top or vest!) is a timeless look, so this is a smart investment. I can't wait to get this and put together some classy and preppy ensembles! The shirts are available online at SkinnyShirt.com and select specialty stores around the country. SkinnyShirt is also launching a Shaper Collection soon for those who want more of a Control Top. I'll make sure you to update you on that when it launches!

P.S. Come back next week for another notable rant or rave from another stylist on a soapbox!
