Dip Your Toes into This Fresh Take on Flats

It's hard to imagine that soon we'll lose the freedom of open-toe shoes. It makes us a bit blue to have to think about closing off our perky pedicures from the world, but fall's fresh take on traditional ballet flats have us minding less than usual. With the cap toe ballet flat's contrasting dip of color on the tip, toes have never looked better in closed-toe shoes. We're not the only ones who think so. The cap toe is popping up everywhere, and designers are having a ball with offering their take on the reinvention. Just keep an eye out! I've already seen styles from J. Crew, LOFT, Marc Jacobs and Kate Spade. On the left is a Cap Toe Ballet Flat from LOFT ($39.50). It's turning out to be the most sought-after style of ballet flats right now, and with the rise in popularity of other old classics like penny loafers and oxfords, vintage-inspired cap toes are fitting right in.

With the cap toe ballet flat already so popular ahead of the cold season, you can be sure that there are a variety of styles to choose from, and most certainly at least one lovable pair for sale at a price that suits you. The biggest challenge, as you'll soon realize, will be to snatch up a cap toe in your size and your favorite style before all your other fashion-hungry foot twins out there do. Here are just a few spotted favorites at a variety of price points.

Want an idea or two on how to wear them? Show off these statement flats in chic ankle pants or in a skirt (pencil or full) that hits right above the knee. You could even pair these cute flats with the season's likely return of the jegging, or with a newcomer: the midi skirt. A pair of skinny jeans in dark wash, black (my personal favorite) or a bold color will also serve as columns of color to draw people's eyes straight down to your cool cap toes. Just make sure you don't pair these shoes with floor-sweeping maxi skirts or flare or wide leg jeans. You'd just be covering-up your attention-deserving shoes! Where's the fun in that?
