For Guys: Valentine's Day Lingerie Guide

So, Cupid got you square in the heart with his arrow and you're feeling beautifully amorous, looking forward to celebrating your new, rekindled or ongoing love this Valentine's Day. If you are looking to surprise her with an intimate gift that lets her know just how passionately you feel about her, lingerie is the key. Yes, it can be seen as self-serving, but if you know your partner well -- and you know that she enjoys dressing up in pretty lingerie from time to time -- it's a win-win situation.

If you worry about choosing something too scandalous for her and putting her in an uncomfortable situation, there are lingerie options out there for those wanting to play it safer. For example, you could get her a sexy pajama set, a silken robe or "loungerie" -- lingerie that more closely resembles loungewear and prioritizes comfort. If she's the more adventurous type, you can really just have a ball finding something exciting for you both. Lingerie is diverse. Just make sure you consider her personality and preferences when shopping because the goal is to make her feel sexy within her own boundaries.

If you're feeling a little overwhelmed with the task of finding that perfect lingerie gift for your love, don't worry. We've got you covered. Get to know the top 10 lingerie trends for 2012 by looking through our Valentine's Day slideshow. We also have a handful of picks for each, so your journey to find lingerie could be a very short one -- starting and ending here with us!

exactly! silly women think guys care what they are wearing, it's more like what we have to get them out of that concerns us most.

My wife was (and is today) a very beautiful lady when we got married forty-seven years ago. I knew that she was a little conservative about a lot of things but never realized how much so about women’s night time attire until I decided to go shopping on my own for her.
Forty-five years ago, I bought my wife a fancy lingerie from Fredrick’s of Hollywood. Got my parents to watch our daughter for the night and after a romantic evening together I gave her the gift. She looked at it and said she would never wear something like that and she never looked at it again.
While shopping for this, what I thought was a perfect gift, I noticed that the less material the designers used in creating such flamboyant designs the higher the price was on them. Never could understand that but it seems to be true with swimwear also. Second thing I noticed is that these designs while looking good on the model very seldom fit or look good on the average women. Now that we are both in our late sixties, I still enjoy looking at them on the models but I guess we will never know how beautiful my wife will ever look in one.

Try again!! My husband and I married 30+ years now. He tried the same thing early on and I reacted the same (small children, working, not "there" yet). But in the last 5 years have become more in love with him than I can say, and have embraced the beautiful Victoria Secret undies he purchases! They have beautiful ones now, give it a try this Valentines Day. Let her know that you still care, still love her, and still want her!! Just sayin....

If you REALLY wanna give your female loved one a perfect nighttime gift to wear, take it from me, and I'll bet most women will agree... Warm fuzzy pajamas. Full Pajama Shirt and pants. Just stop short of buying sweats. Add house shoes and or slippers. The only question is if the PJ's need to have footies. Take my advice and I'll almost bet she will come out of these faster than the lacy things... right ladies? (Ladies will tell you not all lacy things fit, give comfort, or warmth after your four minutes of... LOL!)

Lingerie is not a gift to the woman. It's a gift to the man. So, in effect, ladies, he's given you nothing when he buys you these things. Quite frankly, I agree with previous posters that the stuff never fits the average person, and most of it is uncomfortable. If I want to dress up for my guy, I will pick my own time and place and what I wear.

Two general guidelines to keep in mind, fellas:
    1) If you want her to consider actually wearing it, go for classy, not cheesy. Most women really don't want to dress like a hooker, even in private.
    2) Women rarely get turned on when they are physically uncomfortable. If it's lace, feel it first to make sure that it's not scratchy, and avoid 'butt floss' or elastic or straps so tight that they will leave grooves in the skin. Flowy silk is much more likely to get your lady in the mood.

lingerie is a christmas wrapped gift, MOre fun walking into a room with a wrapped gift than o here it is and besides lingerie can hide a few faults here and there, seldom is nudity beautiful unless you are an air brush, so might as well have some lingerie

In all those pics in the slide show there was not one plus size option. Not to say Victorias secrets models aren't beautiful, but they make up about 1% of the nations body type. I have bought things to entice my husband and he always has the same response, he takes drops it on the floor and says,"looks great." He doesn't actually care what any of it looks like he just considers it an opsticale that is in the way of what he really wants, you naked! So ladies just remeber that, especially if you don't get the response you were hoping for. Just go naked you will definetely get a response then.

Like the article said, it depends on the woman, her body type and her personality. Yes, it's just going to come off at the end of the night anyway, but I happen to love lingerie because it makes me feel sexy and confident when I put it on. Granted, I know I am very lucky to have a petite, thin frame and that makes it easier to find things that fit. I'm sure it is very frustrating for plus-size women and I wish there were more options out there for all body types. The best experience I ever had shopping for bras was going to a high-end lingerie shop where they actually measured me, looked at my body, and suggested things that were my style and the right size. I would love that as a gift because most women have trouble finding bras that fit, let alone look cute!
