Funky Heels: Spice Up Your Ensemble

It seems that season after season, year after year, shoe designers get bolder and bolder with their designs. From dangerous-looking stilettos with spikes to curved heels that look nearly impossible to walk in, shoes are becoming far more about appearances than function these days.

While I do appreciate comfort, I'm not going to complain about funky stilettos and heels. Why? Because all hail creative designers. And do you know how many compliments a look-at-me shoe can earn you on the street? You'll basically feel like a celebrity.

The key to comfort, of course, is to make sure the shoe fits you well. An ill-fitting shoe does justice for no one. Teetering, stumbling and cringing in pain as you wobble down the sidewalk is not sexy, ladies. So yes -- find a shoe that fits you well, employ the use of gel inserts and give your feet a break when you need to.

Pictured at top left are (oh-so-talented) Jeffrey Campbell's Battle Spike Pumps in black leather and gold. They're a bit of a splurge at $210, but undeniably cool. I've included some other spiky heel options below.

ASOS PADLOCK Platforms, $22.50 (from $43)
Arden B Jeweled Spike Back Heel, $69
Charlotte Russe Mixed Brights Cage Heel, $42.50
ALDO Perusia Spike Heeled Shoes, $115 (from $130)
Atta Girly Heel with Bow, $59.99
Can I Call You? Heel, $49.99
