I contend that Halloween is the best holiday of the year. I'd even go as far as to say that it's the best holiday in the entire world. Yep - Halloween is better than my birthday, better than Christmas, better than Thanksgiving (as long as I can still eat pumpkin pie) and the Fourth of July. I say this as a grown woman, too, and I know I'm not alone in my thoughts.

I drag Halloween out into a month-long thing. Why? Because dressing up is really, really fun. Especially when you don't have to worry about looking fashionable or sexy or pretty. When it comes to Halloween, you just need to be scary or funny or really clever. While I would not say I excel at the aforementioned trio of superlatives, Halloween does tend to bring out the best in all of us.

To whit, dressing up for Halloween (or any occasion, really) allows us to step outside of ourselves for a little bit. We get to pretend we're someone, or something, new. For at least an evening.
