Fact: Your Mom wiped your bum when you were a baby. You don't remember it and I'm sure she wishes she could forget, but it happened. Many times.

I'm not trying to guilt you or anything, but maybe consider all the hours she spent taking care of you -- in addition to the deep love she has for you -- this Mother's Day and buy her something special.

I'm not saying you have to go out and spend a fortune or anything. After all, it's the thought that counts. If you're planning to buy jewelry for mom this year, first ask yourself the following questions:

- What are her favorite colors?
- What is her personal style?
- What kind of jewelry does she already own?
- What kinds pieces does she wear most often?
- Has she mentioned wanted a specific product recently?

Just Say No to Skin Cancer: Sunscreen

Perhaps it's my pale exterior or maybe it's my "look out for others" instincts, but I am what you refer to as a "sunscreen pusher."

By this point in our relationship, my husband has probably heard me say, "Don't forget to put sunscreen on!" over a bajillion times and he knows a lesson in skin cancer and premature aging is on its way when I notice he's sporting a burn or tan.

I cannot stress it enough: skin care is extremely important. Not just because wrinkles and age spots and a tough/leather exterior are unbecoming, but because skin is our largest -- and most exposed -- organ.

I don't care if you prefer organic or if you wear 30 SPF or 130 SPF -- wear your sunscreen!

I recently compiled a list of unconventional Mother's Day gifts -- gifts that were not expected or received often by mom's around the world.

This particular 2013 Mother's Day Guide is similar in the sense that I'm certainly not including flowers, chocolate, smell-good products or fine jewelry. However, this list of Mother's Day gifts goes one step further by taking a more "quirky" approach to gift giving.

Here's a little nugget of valuable information: Over the past two years, the website DealNews.com found that prices on jewelry, chocolate and flowers actually increased at the beginning of May.

Now, why do you suppose that would be? The boost in temperatures doesn't make people suddenly feel more inclined to wear diamonds or sapphires. Nope -- prices get hiked because retailers know those are the hot ticket items people purchase for Mother's Day.

If your goal is to buy mom something meaningful -- without breaking the bank -- opt for a gift that's less expected. Unconventional mother's day gifts are just as desired (perhaps even more so) than blingy jewelry, smooth chocolate and fragrant flowers.

Best Things to Buy in May

May is arguably one of the most lovely months of the year. It's the month you anticipate all your summer vacations and activities, it's the month you celebrate Mom and it's the month you finally get to kick all your winter clothes to the curb (or at least relegate them to the storage bin).

Weather-wise, May tends to not be too hot, but is still warm enough to enjoy time spent outdoors. Not to mention, all those gorgeous flowers in full bloom and trees that have finally sprouted green leaves... a true reprieve from winter's cold and bony hands.

Anyway, May is also a great month to go shopping for particular items, which is the topic I'm covering today. I've got all the 'best things to buy in May' covered below. Read through the list and then go forth and shop to your heart's content.

3D TVs

DealNews.com reports that last month, Ultra HDTV's (which boast a vertical resolution of 2160 pixels), hit stores with much lower price tags than were expected. For example, Chinese manufacturer Seiki offered their 50" 4K TV for $1500, a steal! Days layer, it dropped $300. My point is that this because this new wave of Ultra HDTVs are less expensive than anticipated, 3D TVs are even cheaper. In fact, prices have hit all-time lows of under $500 (LG 32" below is at $449, for example).

Expect hot prices between $600 and $1000 on these items. For an even sweeter deal, opt for name brand 60" 1080 LCD HDTVs, which are now around $50 cheaper than even their off-brand counterparts, reports DealNews. The site says to expect prices for these consistently below $700.

Camping Equipment

If you have any camping trips planned for the summer/fall, now is definitely the time to buy all of those camping essentials. I'm just going to get straight to the point: Pretty much any item that'd be appropriate to give as a graduation or wedding gift will go on sale during May. That includes cookware, china and kitchen appliances, which I'm highlighting here. Buying Tip: Hold on to your receipts. A lot of online and local stores have price match guarantees and adjustments that'll give you the difference if an item you buy goes on sale shortly thereafter. There are rules (you can't get the price difference a year later, for example), so make sure you're up to speed on the store's policies.

According to FatWallet.com, home goods and decor go on sale in the month of May. This probably has something to do with all of the spring cleaning that took place in March and April. By the end of May, most people are completely finished spring cleaning/decorating/etc., so those items don't move off the shelves as quickly. Merchandiser solution? Discount time!

Also, since manufacturers want to make sure remodelers/cleaners have new stock, new models hit the floor and the older models go on sale.

Trend Alert: Coral Lips for Spring/Summer 2013

Coral lips (and nails) are one of my favorite trends for the 2013 spring and summer season. I love how the pinkish/reddish/orange-ish shade complements a variety of skin coloring.

Seriously, whether you're a redhead with freckles and pale skin, have olive coloring with lush black locks or rock a brunette mane with medium toned skin, there's a coral lipstick for you.

Coral is kind of like red lipsticks, in a sense. Not all reds work on everyone. To find the perfect shade for your coloring, you may want to try a few different products before settling on a staple.

5 Tips for finding the perfect coral lipstick:
1. For warmer skin tones (those with yellow/gold undertones), choose a coral lipstick with bronze, gold or copper flecks.

2. For cooler skin tones (those with pink/red undertones), seek out a coral lipstick that has a bit of silver, opal or white sheen/shimmer.

3. Shades that lean more orange and/or pastel are ideal for lighter complexions.

4. Shades that lean more red are ideal for medium complexions.

5. Shades that lean more brown/brick are ideal for deep complexions.

Nail Wraps: Easy as 1, 2, 3

When you're in a rush and you have no time to wait for nails to dry (but still want to look fabulous), I highly recommend going the nail wrap route. Nail wraps have become increasingly popular over the past two years and designs get cooler and cooler every day.

For example, I absolutely love the NCLA nail wraps, which range from $9 to $16 per set. Check out their "Jazzi" nail wraps ($16) pictured at top left.

Applying the nail wraps is easier than you'd think. It requires no heating lamps or drying/waiting time. Essentially, you apply the sticker to the nail, cut off the excess and then file around the edges of the nail so you get a perfect fit.

How to Choose Shoes for Your Body Shape

You choose dresses, pants and tops according to your body shape, but did you know that you should also be doing the same with your shoes?

Style expert Jacqui Stafford covers everything you need to know on the issue (and more) in her book The Wow Factor: Insider Style Secrets for Every Body and Every Budget.

I'm breaking down some of that information for you here, so if you're shopping for shoes I highly suggest giving the details below a once-over before laying down any cash.

Smaller Top, Bigger Bottom

Stafford calls this body shape the "fragrance bottle" figure. "Balance out a bottom-heavy figure with sky-high neutral espadrille wedges to instantly lengthen the look of your legs," says Stafford. She recommends wearing these types of shoes with floaty dresses or classic dark-wash, boot cut jeans.

Bigger Top, Smaller Bottom

"Legs like yours beg to be shown off in heels that have just enough heft (a chunkier heel) to stand up to your fuller top half," insists Stafford. "You can get away with tricky styles, like (of-the-moment) Lucite and metallics to showcase your slender calves."

Straight Up and Down

According to Stafford, the "lipstick" body shape (narrow figures) are able to pull of super sexy, strappy sandals better than most shapes. "Embrace bold colors and anything ankle-strapped to add shape to slim shape-less legs. Remember-ankle straps will always add extra volume," she says.

Round Figures

For those with "a little more in the middle," Stafford suggests eye-catching ballet flats that draw attention toward slim ankles. "Look for anything embellished or brightly colored to add a splash of interest to your weekend jeans and tees," she advises.

Curvy Figures

"The good news is, you can really wear any style to showcase your fabulous hourglass figure," says Stafford. She particularly recommends d'Orsay cut pumps because they reveal "more of the arch of your foot, instantly slimming the look of your ankles."

Must Own: The Spring/Summer Maxi

For a while, I was sort of resistant to maxi skirts and dresses. I thought to myself, "Meh...too much fabric." And then I tried one.

Verdict? I felt like a million bucks. And not only did I feel beautiful in every single long and flowing garment I put on, I felt comfortable.

Sidebar: Ladies, if there's anything I know about fashion, it's that the collision of comfort and confidence is not to be taken lightly. When that magical moment happens in the dressing room, you don't look at the tag, you just put the garment in the "buy pile" and head to the checkout counter.

Seriously -- those garments are far and few between and they quickly become staples in your wardrobe.

Anyway, if you haven't worn a maxi yet, do consider buying one for the warmer months. And if you're a maxi connoisseur, feel free to add a few more to your collection.

Better With Age: Swimsuit Guide for Women

It's no secret that time pays a toll on our bodies. That's why anti-aging products and plastic surgery are such a booming business. Working out, eating well and protecting your skin from UV rays are all necessary if you want to maintain a healthy figure, of course.

With that said, every woman -- no matter her age or weight -- still has "problem zones" that she wants to conceal. Especially when the garment we're talking about is a swimsuit. It's easily one of the most revealing garments a woman can walk out in public in.

While this article is, indeed, this month's installation of "Better WIth Age," the topic actually applies to all women. Each section addresses a particular problem area and includes tips/suggestions for choosing a suit that flatters your body type. In addition, I've pulled some bathing suit options -- both one and two pieces -- that will look amazing on you.

Boyish Figure

The ladies with the large busts above may envy your narrow figure, but if you were born with a "pencil" shape then you probably which you had a little extra curve. To create the illusion of more curves, wear a one piece swimsuit that accentuates the narrowest part of your waist. If the suit flairs a little at the bottom, even better. You can also find swimsuits with slight padding up top to help create the illusion of a fuller bust.

Another option is to wear a low-rise bikini, which draws attention to the hips and makes them appear a bit wider. Also consider a monokini, which is a one-piece with cutouts on the side that create the illusion of a curvier frame.

Large Bust

Ladies with a large bust often get frustrated come bathing suit season. First of all, so many options -- even when offered in XL, XXL and XXXL -- don't adequately cover or support your bust. If you wear a DD+, I highly suggest buying a swimsuit that has underwire.

This type of suit will lift and support and make you feel more comfortable at the beach. Both one pieces and two pieces come with underwire support. Another tip is to avoid halter tops, which place too much strain on your neck. Your neck was not meant to hold your puppies up. If the halter top also has a strap that wraps around your body, that is OK.

Tummy Trouble

This is probably the most common complaint, so I'll list this "problem zone" first. If you feel your tummy isn't toned enough (or are embarrassed by loose skin from post-pregnancy or stretch marks), there are so many options for you.

My favorite option is the high-waisted bikini, which still allows you to show off some of your stomach without making you uncomfortable. High wasted bikinis typically have a retro feel to them, which I love. Unique Vintage sells an affordable selection and I highly recommend both their one and two piece suits.

Other options to conceal your stomach are compression one pieces (think shapewear in swimsuit form) or suits with ruching across the stomach. Of course, you can always wear a classic tankini, which is a two piece suit with a bikini bottom and stretchy camisole-like top.

Disproportionate Figure

Whether you're large on top and small on bottom or vice versa, you should always aim to balance your figure out. If you're pear shaped, you can create the illusion of a fuller top and smaller bottom by wearing a solid color on the bottom and a pattern up top. A bandeau can also make your bust appear fuller, especially if it has ruffles or other embellishments. Also consider a suit with a skirted bottom if you want to conceal your thighs.

If you're narrow hipped and large busted, forgo strapless tops. These can squish your breasts and don't provide much support. Choose a top that's minimalistic and a bottom in a flashier print to attract the eye to your hips. This applies to both one and two pieces. To play down wide shoulders, choose a top with bra-like straps or a square neckline.

If you feel your torso is too short, opt for a plunging neckline, which can elongate your torso. If it's your legs that are lacking inches, choose a swimsuit cut that sits high on the hips. This creates the illusion of more leg.

I was writing a story the other day that attempted to name what trends of our era would standout most 20 or 30 years from now.

While pointy toed flats aren't as common as pointy heels, they are quite comfortable, fashion-forward and flattering, to boot. They're also pretty simple to style and bring a sort of hip chicness to just about any outfit.

Style Idea #1: With Jeans and Printed Tank
Throw on your most comfortable and best fitting pair of dark denim jeans. Then add a hip, printed tank along with some baubles and your pointy-toed flats and you're good to go.

Style Idea #2: With A Summer Dress
I love an easy, breezy summer dress on every woman, no matter her style preference, coloring, size or height. A pair of pointy-toed flats instantly adds a cool, carefree vibe. Not to mention, it makes errand running and sight-seeing far easier!

Beautiful Bras Sized DD+ Under $50

Huddle close, my bosomed brethren, for today we're talking about bras sized DD+. Now, before you run off saying you could never wear a size DD or larger, I suggest you measure yourself properly.

So many women -- over 80 percent, actually -- wear the wrong bra size. And if you were fitted at Victoria's Secret, that doesn't count. While their lingerie is undoubtedly sexy, they use an incorrect measuring scale (they add inches to your band width and subtract from your cup size). Making only A, B, C and D cup sizes is far more retail-friendly than making sizes A through M, all of which exist and are purchased by women every day.

If you want a better fitting bra -- which can lead to fewer headaches or backaches and remove bra bulge, quad boobs, gaping and so forth -- go here and take your measurements.

Spring Fashion 2013: Try These 9 Spring Fashion Trends

"Spring is the time of plans and projects," wrote Leo Tolstoy in Anna Karenina. He was right on target, but spring is also the time for fabulous fashion.

Of course, the three go hand in hand. You dress fabulous so you feel fabulous and then, consequentially, you make fabulous plans for the warm weather months. Talk about a divine trinity.

The spring fashion 2013 season is chock-full of tropical-inspired duds, such as bermuda shorts, sweet mixed florals, breezy/sheer fabrics and mega contrasted ensembles.

I've laid out all the ooey gooey details on spring fashion 2013 below, so read through all the must-follow spring trends and buy accordingly. And if we're following the words of Tolstoy, perhaps buy your garments with a plan or project in mind!

Mega Contrast

I'm dubbing the term now: contrastic. The most notable color combination of the season has to black and white. That makes sense, as you can't get much more contrasted than that.

Lots of garments have already done the mixing for you by strategically sewing black and white together. You can also mix-and-match solids for another take on this trend. For example, a stark white spring frock mixed with leather strappy heels and a black jacket is tres chic.

Sheer Fabrics

Nothing's more satisfying than feeling a breeze sweep over your skin. Sheer fabrics allow for this to take place without getting you arrested for indecent exposure (as long as the appropriate bits are covered, of course).

Fabrics to look for include anything that fit into the "featherweight" category. Think organza, mesh, lace, silk chiffon and mousseline.

Cutouts

In my opinion, sheer fabrics mesh perfectly (pun) with cutouts. In fact, you can find a lot of cutouts that, instead of just being bare in the cutout area, utilize a sheer fabric. Fashion designers seriously come up with the coolest looking cutout designs, especially when they use the sheer fabric trick.

Anyway, before you go all, "I'm too modest for bare skin," keep in mind that you don't have to flounce about the streets with most of your ta-tas on display. A peek of shoulder here or a glimpse of upper midriff there is subdued sex appeal.

I covered the ruffle trend in this post a few weeks ago, but I have no problem re-iterating myself: Ruffles are so hot right now.
I particularly love the way they sway in balmy spring breezes. Or the way they soften up your features and shout to the world, "I am a woman who embraces my feminine guile!"

My only piece of advice is to consider your figure before buying. For example, if you want to draw attention away from a larger chest, putting ruffles on top will counter your efforts.

Bermuda Shorts

Glamour magazine says that Bermuda shorts are a definite spring fashion 2013 do. "The slouchy, cool-girl shorts that were all over New York runways are perfect for every girl who never felt like she could pull off those cheek-baring cut-offs so beloved on Instagram," they write.

They're definitely chic, they're appropriate for myriad events and are seriously flattering to a plethora of figures. Ding, ding ding! We have a fashion winner!

Stripes

Stripes are so uncomplicated, yet they really stand out in a crowd. For that reason, stripes are not very likely to go out of style any time soon. For spring fashion 2013, choose stripes that are particularly contrasted.

Red and white, black and white, yellow and black, pink and yellow -- all color combinations that will get you noticed. You can also nod to the nautical trend by wearing navy and white stripes paired with a red accessory or two.

Leather

Mmm...the way leather smells, the way it feels, the way it looks -- leather really can do no wrong. One of spring fashion 2013's favorite materials has to be slick and sleek leather.

To soften the leather look, wear it in a more feminine silhouette or choose a leather garment in a cream or dyed pastel. Leather can be costly, so if you want to save money, but still get in on the trend, try a leather cuff bracelet, leather kicks, leather fringe earrings or even a leather clutch.

One of my favorite looks is a sheer lace cardigan in a neutral color over a brightly colored tank or spaghetti strap top.

Pair it with fitted jeans (regular ol' blue jeans are also another spring fashion 2013 trend) and your favorite heels and you're good to go.

17 Beach Tote Must-Haves

It may have taken a while for Mr. Winter to skidaddle, but now that he's finally out of sight (for at least most of you), it's time to embrace spring and summer's warmer temps. Considering we're already halfway through April, I wouldn't be surprised if you've already been planning a beach or poolside vacation.

Whether you're gearing up for a 7-day getaway, a weekend trip or a few hours with your toes in the sand (I envy anyone close enough to the water to pull that one off), one thing's for certain: you need a beach tote with all the appropriate amenities.

I'm sure you've already got a few things covered, -- such as sunscreen or lip balm -- but I'm going to help make sure you don't forget anything.

We'll start at the beginning. You need a beach tote, obviously. Preferably, a beach tote that stands out in a crowd. It must be big enough to carry your essentials, but small enough to not weigh you down. My 2013 recommendation? The Thursday Friday Florals Together Bag in Faded Floral ($65) pictured at top left. Beach Tote Must-Haves

Sunscreen: This is the 21st century ladies, and you all know the perils of the sun's UV rays. Get a spray tan if you must, but protect yourself from the actual sun. I recommend at least SPF 25 and spray-on sunscreen is the way to go. It applies more evenly and penetrates past hair (especially good for arms) for complete coverage. Shop sunscreen.

Lip Balm: Protect your lips. Choose a moisturizing lip balm with an SPF and apply often. It'll keep your pucker looking pretty and healthy. Shop lip balm.

The DivaCup: If there's even a chance Aunt Flo is coming to town, be prepared. A tampon works for a short period of time, but may I suggest The DivaCup? It's a silicone "cup" that you insert into the vagina for up to 12 worry-free hours. You'll save money in the long run with The DivaCup versus disposable products because it lasts for at least one year.

Cover Up: I'm absolutely obsessed with all the gorgeous beach cover ups available right now. Choose something specifically made for water and the beach. I recommend something breezy with a hint of sex appeal, such as this stunning white coverup with silver embellishment details by Aguaclara ($180). Shop more cover ups here.

Light Perfume: If you're like me, smelling pretty is a priority. I love carrying travel-sized perfumes with me anywhere I go. For the beach, I prefer a lighter scent (so as not to attract all the bugs). TOCCA recently came out with Profumo Veloce, a fragrance travel atomizer, that fits perfectly into your bag. Sunglasses: This one's a duh, but any man or woman would be remiss without sunglasses at the beach. They protect your eyes, prevent headaches from squinting and keep you more comfortable all around. I prefer over sized sunglasses for max eye coverage. Shop sunglasses here.

Sun Hat: Sticking with the skin protection theme, don't forget a sun hat. They look adorable and will keep you cool, to boot. Shop sun hats here.

Entertainment: I highly recommend spending most of your time splashing around or building sand castles, but if you need a little breather or simply want to relax under the sun, bring along some entertainment.

Try an iPod or iPod shuffle for music, bring a good book, or carry along an eReader, such as the Kindle Paperwhite. Make sure you have a protective shield for these items to prevent water damage. Shop tablets here.

9 Tips for Spring Cleaning

It's finally here. And by "it," I mean spring. Warmer weather, chirping birds, balmy breezes and the scent of freshly cut grass, spring showers and pretty flowers.

Now that the temperatures are safely above freezing, it's time to bundle up all those sweaters, fur-lined boots and heavy winter coats and put them into storage until next winter.

Some consider spring cleaning and organizing your closet a hassle, but I love it. The key to a smooth organizing process, though, is to have a set plan for how you'll do it.

Below are nine spring cleaning and organizing tips for your wardrobe, courtesy of Tron Jordheim, the CMO of StorageMart who's affectionately been dubbed "The Self Storage Guy."

Read through the list, round up the necessary material you'll need, put on some great music and organize away.

Leather and Fur Coats

- Do store leather garments in your storage unit if you are using a climate controlled unit. Because leather is treated, it stands up to a wider range in temperature and humidity.

- Don't wrap your leather in plastic. It needs to breathe. Make sure to use a sturdy coat hanger for jackets so the jackets don't lose their shape or get hanger dents in the shoulders. Shop coat hangers here.

- Don't store your furs in a storage unit. Furs need cooler temperatures and a more controlled environment than most self storage facilities provide. The average temperature in a climate controlled storage unit is approximately 75 to 85° in summer. Furs need 40 to 50° ideally with a low humidly in the 40 to 50% range.

Shoes

- Don't store your shoes in plastic boxes. Shoes need to breathe, too and without air they will rot.

- Do store your shoes in the cardboard boxes you bought them in or buy a shoe organizer Do stuff your shoes with newsprint or paper towels -- just enough to help them keep their shape. Shop shoe organizers here.

- Do clean them and/or polish them before putting them up for the season. That way they'll be good as new when you take them out this fall. Shop shoe polish and cleaners here.

Clothes

- Do store your long garments in a wardrobe box with a built in hanger rod, which you can usually purchase at a self storage facility or from a moving company for under $20. The wardrobe boxes are about 51 inches. You can also get a flat wardrobe box for long garments if they are garments you can fold and lay flat without causing them to wrinkle or pucker. The flat boxes, usually about 36 inches long and cost under $20. Shop wardrobe boxes here.

- Do store your regular clothes in garment bags or use wardrobe boxes. You can get a 20x24 box that is 36 high with a rod in it for under $20. This will hold a lot of tops and pants. Make sure to use good hangers so you don't make your clothes misshapen. You can also store clothes in plastic tubs. Most fabrics do not need to breathe as much as leather. Put a few pieces of cedar wood closet hangers in each tub just to keep things fresh. Shop garment bags here.

- Don't buy cheap boxes. They can rip when moving them and may crush when you stack them. Boxes start at about $2 for small ones and go up to $20 for the large wardrobe boxes with hanger rods.

Lose Inches in Seconds: Shapewear Under $50

Whether you're prepping your body for a white wedding gown, planning an outfit for a formal soiree or simple want to nix the ripples under that body-con dress, shapewear is your best friend.

Shapewear can make your tummy look flatter and chest look perkier. It can also remove the dreaded bra-created "back bulge" and slim down your thighs. All without anyone every knowing the difference.

Celebrities and debutantes alike swear by shapewear. If you're hesitant about it, head to your local department store (or even Kohls or Target will have shapewear on hand) to try on a few different garments. You'll be hooked. Pun intended!

Makeup Palettes: Try More Product, Save More Money

Ever since I was a young girl, I've been obsessed with makeup. And not just any old makeup, but high-end, expensive cosmetics. I worked as an ice cream server at a local establishment and would put my measly pay and extra tips toward my next department store investment.

To me, Sephora was heaven on Earth and reading the latest makeup reviews was better than consuming chocolate (and I really love chocolate).

That said, I wasn't exactly loaded with money. A less-than-part-time ice cream girl's wages amount to barely anything at all, so I had to learn how to get creative with my money. I participated in swaps and exchanges online, which made things less expensive. I also invested wisely in makeup palettes.

To this day, I strongly believe that makeup palettes are the best way to own (and try) more colors and products. For example, you can buy a single Urban Decay eyeshadow for $17, or you can pay ~$34 for 8+ colors versus the one. See what I'm saying? You get less of each color, but more product at the end of day. If you run out of one color in the palette, that's a sign that the full-sized, single product is a wise investment. Few things are sadder than paying $15-$60 for a product that never gets used, so using a palette as a test run is smart.

Spring/Summer 2013 Trend: Graphic Black and White

I love a good neutral. In fact, my wardrobe is replete with beiges, blacks and whites. Fortunately for me (and my wallet), I'm one step ahead of the Spring/Summer 2013 trend game.

For the next five months or so, you're going to see a lot of graphic blacks and whites paired with each other via handbags, scarves, jewelry, pants, skirts, dresses and beyond.

The key is to balance the two colors in such a way that they really play off of each other. Also, stick with very clean, almost geometric, lines and patterns when putting your outfits together.

Four Essential Makeup Brushes Worth Splurging On

Whether you spend an hour on your makeup every day or are more of a "5 minutes and I'm heading out the door" kind of gal, appropriate cosmetic brushes are essential in creating a polished, blended look.

You can save the 50-brush arsenal for the pros, but do invest in at least three to five quality cosmetic brushes. The better the quality, the smoother your application will be and the more blended and natural your face will look.

Today I'm highlighting three brushes in particular that every woman should own. Because these brushes are used every time you apply makeup, spending a little extra money for higher quality will actually save you money in the long run.

Eye Shadow Brush
As the name implies, the eye shadow brush is used to apply eye shadow. There are several sizes available. The shorter eye shadow brushes are prefer for applying all over color to the lids. Refer to the Hourglass All-Over Shadow Brush ($30) pictured at top left for a perfect example. There are also eye shadow brushes that are slightly wider and longer, which help with blending and shading.

Blush Brush
Blush brushes also come in a few varieties, but, in general, they're large, soft and bushy. This makes for a less harsh application, ideal for blush or bronzers. Some blush brushes are angled, such as this Sisley-Paris Blush Brush ($65). "A unique bevelled head allows you to easily, precisely and quickly apply makeup to sculpt and highlight your cheekbones." Fan brushes can be used in place of a blush brush to apply color/bronzer to your cheeks, but it's a little trickier to finagle if you aren't used to it.

Eyeliner/Brow Brush
I'm a fan of the eyeliner/brow brush because it's multi-purpose. I use it to place eyeshadow on the lower lash line, to darken and shape my brows and also on the upper lash line when using a cream or liquid liner. It has very short, tightly packed bristles for easier application.

Blending Sponge or Foundation Brush
It goes without saying that a foundation applicator is necessary. I prefer a makeup sponge, and in particular, the Beauty Blender ($19.95). You can also use a foundation brush, which helps to buff and blend until your complexion is even and makeup is no longer visible.
