Spotlight On: Fantastic Mr. Fox

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Fantastic Mr. Fox, Roald Dahl's popular children's book is coming to a movie theater near you on Nov. 20! The animated version should be a hit. Movie goers can expect to hear voices from Academy Award Winners George Clooney and Meryl Streep in addition to Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman.

Mr. Fox tells the story of the Fox Family. After twelve years, the Fox Family's quiet home life proves too much for his natural animal instincts. When his young nephew arrives, Mr. Fox slips back into his old ways as a smart bird thief and, in doing so, endangers not only his beloved family, but the whole animal community as well.

I remember reading Fantastic Mr. Fox as a kid and I thought it was both funny and imaginative. It's definitely on my list of movies that I want to see this fall. Do you plan to take your kids to see it?

5 Classic Holiday Movies

I have to admit that I still love the classic Christmas movies. I can't wait for the major networks to star airing them around Thanksgiving. Here are five of my all-time favorites...

Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are Plush ToyWhere the Wild Things Are is coming to the big screen on October 16, 2009. It is based on the classic children's book with the same title, written in 1963 by Maurice Sendak.

The book tells the tale of a mischievous boy named Max, who is sent to bed without his supper for misbehaving. Max dons a wolf suit, travels (in his imagination) to a forest, encounters "wild things" and then returns home to a hot supper. This timeless tale is still popular among children today, and will be a favorite for years to come.

X-Men (the cartoon), Volumes 3 & 4 release on DVD

I have to admit, until the X-Men movies came out, I was never really aware of the X-Men story. Of course I also grew up in a house of girls.

Now that I have two boys, and the recent movies have made the X-Men go even more mainstream, we're quite versed in the land of the X-Men. My boys especially love the recent re-releases of the older cartoon. Over the summer, X-Men Volumes 1 & 2 released and my boys got really into it.

Summer of '09 Rewind

Tropics

Ahh the summer of 2009. Hanging out by the pool, going on vacation and enjoying longer days are a few of my highlights. What will you remember about this summer? From fashion to gadgets, here's a quick recap of some of the hottest styles and products from the summer:

Disneynature releases first DVD: Earth

For kids and families who love the Discovery Channel and the television show Planet Earth, here's a beautiful kid-oriented film: Earth. A first release from newly formed Disneynature is an independent label dedicated to bringing environmental films to theaters for kids and families.

Earth is the first release, and if you're a Planet Earth buff, you'll recognize many of the clips - some of the shots are taken from the show, but some are new. The cinematography is just breath-taking.

The Final 'Final Destination'?

If I had to choose my favorite movie genre, I'd probably select comedies (I love to laugh). Horror movies aren't really my style. I find them to be either very predictable or really cheesy. But for some reason, I actually like the 'Final Destination' series. Why? The popular horror franchise was first released in theaters in 2000 and is about a group of friends who are stalked by death. I'm not going to give away the whole plot for those of you who haven't seen the movies but in essence, you have to watch to see which character(s) cheat death.

Must See Family Movies

Skip the movie theater, stay in and watch a movie with your family. Save the money you would have spent on tickets, popcorn, candy and more and invest in quality time with your family at home. The list of must see family movies below are perfect for any movie night!
