User Reviews for
Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX279W Home Theater System

  • Pros:
Simple to assemble, clear sound, easy wireless pairing
  • Cons:
Weak bass, non adjustable bass/tone/balance etc, very limited inputs
  • Summary:
This system looks good and is fairly easy to hook up. Unfortunately, the bass the system provides is very weak, and non-adjustable. In fact, the bass is even less noticeable than systems with slightly larger speakers that have no subwoofers. Also, as for the wireless, I'm sure it would be helpful for some, but I over anticipated how helpful it would be. There is a very large wireless amplifier that controls the rear speakers (larger than the actual speakers) and both rear speakers are attached to the same one, thus, they cannot be placed independent of each other. Unfortunately in mine and many others' situations, wireless rear is only helpful if BOTH rear speakers are independent of each other. You cannot power the rear speakers directly from the main receiver. It is very disappointing that the various sound tone controls are not adjustable, and very surprising. The system has limited inputs, no HDMI, one component, and one rca audio, and one optical audio. Not great for a "home theatre system". As for the good, the system has very nice, clear sound. The wireless (once figured out) was relatively simple, and I have not experienced any interference. The speakers, while not the smallest, are nice looking and complementary to many other electronics. They also have a slot on the back to mount on a screw exposed from a wall. In conclusion, I wouldn't recommend this system. While it has clear sound, the bass is relatively non-existent and the wireless is not helpful as anticipated.
