Pros: Accuracy and easy of use Cons: Battery power is closer to 4 hours than the 8 hours the manufacturer claims. Turn alerts are occasionally given a little too late to safely make the turn, but this is not generally a problem. Summary: This is my first GPS. I am not a "gadget geek" and in fact, at age 65, I could be described as somewhat technically challenged. I have had the unit for six months and have yet to read the manual, but the Nuvi360 is so simple to use that without reading the manual it has allowed me to successfully travel 7,000 miles throughout the northeast, including NYC and the wilds of Maine. Particularly useful has been the feature that provides lodging and dining possibilities both "at my destination" and "along my current route" The unit easily fits into a pocket, so I have frequently used it in the pedestrian mode including in cities where very tall buildings do occasionally interfere with satellite contact; however, it has always quickly regained contact. I even tried it during a commercial airline flight across the USA and when held next to the window of the plane, it gave me speed (585 mph) and and altitude (36,000). The Nuvi 360 has convinced me I can't live without a GPS and if someday I upgrade, it will most likely be one of the Garmin Nuvi models. |

Pros: great visibility; quick recovery on wrong turns; lots of detail; Cons: routing, routing, routing; cues slow Summary: I feel really let down. I was SO excited that I was finally going to get a GPS. In my three days of ownership, I would have taken the wrong turn several turns if I was relying on the Nuvi. The worst, though, was trying to get from Troy, NY to Gardner, MA. It tried to send me across 100 miles of very curvy 2-lane roads through a lot of small towns. The fastest and SAFEST way is I-90 to I-91 and then across Rt. 2. No matter how I tried, I can't get it to take a preference for interstate routes when it calculates routes. It also should let you set your driving speed preferences so that it can base it's "fastest" route on your driving habits and on reality, not on the speed limits (e.g., NO one goes the speed limit on CA freeways - you'll get killed).I so wanted this to work. I've had a lot of small successes with this unit. It seems to work very well in towns. But the big stuff, cross country, matters a lot. Someone here said they had some problems with being steered the wrong way but still loved the unit. OK, it's a cool unit but I can't love something that steers me wrong. They could update the software to make it work right. They should look at Microsoft (yep) MapPoint for an example of how to do great routing. |

Pros: Small and portable, bluetooth connectivety, easy set up manual hardly needed. Cons: Too easy to watch instead of road. Although it does give voice directions. Summary: I was very impressed with how easy the unit was to operate. Mine came charged with the latest firmware and maps so I did not have to update it. I have a Verizon LG VX8300 phone and after reading some reviews I was afraid that I might have a problem, but after turning bluetooth on, and selecting the Nuvi no problem at all receives and sends calls and my contact list was displayed on the Nuvi. Over 6 Million points of interest make it easy to fine restaurants, Post Offices, Churches, and other needed services. I have only used the Nuvi twice to find an unknown location but both times it has directed me there on a route that seemed to be the most direct and easy. Sometimes it will near your home tell you something not quite right but if you are already familiar with the area why use a GPS anyway. The unit has fallen in price a little since my purchase but I feel it is worth every penny and more than I paid. If you don't have a unit this one is definitly worth considering and if you have one with less features or a bulky one consider upgrading to this one. Happy traveling!!!! |
