Panasonic PT61DLX75 61" DLP Projection TV

  • By AZImmortal   02/21/2007 Excellent
  • Pros:
Large and bright screen. Sleek body. Plenty of inputs.
  • Cons:
    Some "screendoor" effect. "Only" 720p.
  • Summary:
This TV's display is bright and vibrant; the only thing bad about it is the screendoor effect (which is common among all DLPs), but even then it's not usually noticeable. It's also "only" a 720p TV, but unless you're actually watching 1080p content, this is a moot point. Overall it was a great purchase.
  • By liman28   11/30/2006 Very Good
  • Pros:
    Less than 100lbs/3 component/2 HDMI ports/vga input infront/universal remonte/built-in QAM/cable card/PIP
  • Cons:
VGA input max XGA, no widescreen resolution/not 1080p
  • Summary:
The TV looks slick and modern, especially when matched with the Panasonic TV stand (TY-66LC65c). The stand is made to fit this TV like a glove with wooden stubs that interlock to the front of the TV and there are brackets in the back to secure back end. In my opinion this TV is a great price for a high quality DLP in the range of $1000-$2000. The TV contains numerous inputs and is convenient for people without a receiver. The TV has 3 component input, 2 HDMI, 3 composite/S-video inputs, and 1 VGA input(max 1024 x 768). I in particular like having the VGA input in the front so that I can easily attach my laptop. If I wanted to attach a permanent multimedia computer, I would choose to buy a DVI to HDMI/component cable and attach it to the back. However, forums have indicated that through HDMI the blacks are lighter(bad). However, in order to have widescreen resolution for your multimedia computer you will need to connect via HDMI or component(1280x720). Nice to have the convenience of a SD card reader slot in the front. The TV has built in HDTV tuner (QAM) and cable card slot, makes receiving high definition easy and simple. Upscalabilty to 1080i actually looks worst than 1080i, so might as well forget using this resolution. Remote has fewer button, which means more submenus within each button and more button pressing to get to a certain function. However, the remote itself looks very nice. Overall, I love this TV. The picture quality is very good, but as you know the larger the TV the more it is important to have 1080p to have a sharper/crisper picture. There is a picture quality difference between a 720p TV that is 32" verses 61". However, the picture still looks very good....that is instead of excellent.
