Toshiba REGZA 37CV510U 37" LCD TV

  • By anonymous 06/20/2009 Very Good
  • Pros:
Clear images with high def signal. Sound sufficient. Great price, especially on sale at $549.00.
  • Cons:
Picture quality varies on standard cable stations. Color can vary depending on signal. Best used with high def signal and box from cable company.
  • Summary:
Owned for three months. Good picture quality and sound when hooked up to high def signal. Images not as clear on standard digital signals but acceptable if don't mind. Important to remember that the signal into the unit determines picture quality. Standard digital signal not as clear as high-def signal so get cable company special receivers for HD. Works well with game machines, e.g. xbox or WII Nintendo.Unit attractive with narrow border bezel but stand for table top viewing appears to be somewhat flimsy. Just plant it and leave it.Can be controlled through Toshiba remote or programmed remote from cable co. for example, or through easily accessed buttons behind bezel on right side of set.Two sets of inputs for hdmi, combo stereo/video cables, one set for separate video or stereo jacks. HDMI jack at side of set under controls mentioned.

  • Summary:
Purchasing the Toshiba Regza 37CV510U sight unseen was a calculated gamble based on the very few reviews I could find, but it turned out to be an excellent decision. You don't have to go broke for a fine LCD TV. * This flat panel LCD television deserves recognition for quality and value. While the picture looks more than OK right out of the box with the factory settings, you'll be more impressed after adjusting the various available settings that include color and contrast to suit your preferences. * I was easily able to find the right balance by eye without the need for any fancy color calibration DVDs. It mostly meant turning down the backlight and tweaking the contrast and brightness for each video input. Just remember to engage "Theater Lock" to ON to keep your settings from being altered any further. * 720p and 1080i broadcast sources using an over-the-air rooftop antenna looks fantastic -- almost lifelike, depending on the program. It feels like I could actually walk through the screen during "The Price is Right". LOL. * Meanwhile, the picture quality from 480i sources like standard DirecTV will vary greatly depending on the show's source material, and how much is being compressed by the satellite provider. Thankfully, Toshiba's 37CV510U handles these lower quality signals with good results utilizing CableClear and MPEG noise reduction. Again, those can be adjusted to your liking. * Watching regular DVDs from an up-scaling DVD player through component cables look perfect to me. Clear, sharp, and no motion blur. I certainly don't feel the need to rush out and get a Blu Ray player anytime soon. * It really is a shame that a lot of consumers generally head for the more popular S brands at a higher cost and overlook a gem like the Toshiba Regza 37CV510U. I think Toshiba's PixelPure 4G 14-bit video processing makes a lot of difference in helping things to look so great overall.

  • Summary:
I bought this TV as a gift and did a fair amount of research before hand as I did not want to go through the hassle of returning it. After deciding on the size of the TV (37), it was an easy decision to go with a 720p as opposed to a 1080p. Looking at this 37CV510U right next to a 37RV530U(1080p) and you can tell no difference when watching HD television. The PixelPure® technology is also nice for watching sporting events. This technology is not offered in the lower model 37CV500U.I could also see no difference when compared to the newest Samsung models and it was a few hundred dollars cheaper. The Toshiba also had a more narrow frame compared to the Samsung so it looked much more sleek. It was more expensive than the LG or Vizio brands, but the Toshiba had a better picture by far. Toshiba will give you the most bang for your buck.Even when watching over the air standard broadcasts, the image is watchable and I love the easy to use remote and navigation the TV provides.
