We're all familiar with the expression "you get what you pay for" but are these pricey luxuries really worth the penny (more like thousands of dollars)?
Forbes' article "Last-A-Lifetime Accessories" claims these are well worth it because they would have held their value for the next 25 years or more thanks to impeccable construction and distinct understated designs.
The pearls would make a nice heirloom but is that the cost of passing a little piece of you down to your children's children? I don't know about you but, I can find a million other ways to enjoy $36,000 rather than flaunting it around my neck (like on a very reliable vehicle). What do you think?

1. I have a wrist watch that I have been wearing nearly every day for 51 years since 1957! It is a 23 jewel, self-winding Bulova, water resistant, anti-magnetic, and the face has no numbers-only 12 dashes. It cost me about $30.00 back then which was expensive, I suppose.
This Hermes is stupid.

2. As a watch mavin I can state that if you are wealthy enough to purchase a fine time piece, I would suggest a Patek Phillipe, or a Vasheron and Constantine. There are many others I could reccomend in that price range. These watches do not decline in value over time and most are worth more now than if purchased twenty five or fifty years ago. These superb pieces of jewlery keep extreemly accurate time, are beautiful to look at and are true heirlooms to be passed down from one generation. They were made by the worlds finest watchmakers. Please do not even mention them on the same page as the cheap electronic junk made in the far east.

3. Only real vain people having or showing undue or excessive pride in one's appearance or achievements would purchase such a thing... besides with that much money , why would you need to know the time...does the world revolve around you?

4. Back in 1965 - I began buying bargain watches. 3.95 and most recently just purchased a nice digital watch at a Mobil Mart. It was $10.95. I have probably purchased around $200.00 worth of watches in my lifetime. In the early 60's I invested $50,000.00 in some key stocks. My retirement portfolio is worth millions. Is it about paying to read time or really should it be how teach what money can do over time!

8. it s funny that there are middle class people cant even afford a real rolex day/date 18 k president watch . why is that ? gold is going up euros are worth more than us currency . so the next time you asee someone wearing a real rolex watch , bow down before them as your new god because what you are worth is just your big mouths and ugly wrinkles that attract more sun than youll ever want . only losers wear any other watch ! got it ? so if you think you are better ? then go buy a rolex watch right now ! stop drinking beer ! pot bellies ! its an anti-racist watch !

9. Thats crazy to pay that much for a watch.
Some people can barely afford something like that .
What a greedy world we will live.
Thats why knock-off items are everywhere now .
Its looks almost as good as the real deal. You dont have to pay that much either.
You can get a $25,000 hermes bag for $900.00 on e-bay.
Its look very very close like the real deal.
These greedy expensive companies sell this stuff at a crazy price that many cant afford.
Then they get mad when the chinese people make knock-off that are similar to there items.
Lower the damn price and you wont have to worry about counterfeit items being passed around.

10. That is a crazy amount to pay for a watch. I think only the nouveav riche or insecure person would wear such a time piece.

11. I believe only the nouveau riche would wear such a timepiece. Old money does not display such ostentatious or gaudy behaviour.

13. Hey Jenny, I hear you! If you're anything like me then you need a watch for all occassions. Right now, I have my eye on this adorable charm bracelet watch from Avon (http://shop.avon.com/shop/product.asp?pf_id=32347&from=search&find_spec=charm%20watch&camp=200802&dir_delivery=1&rep_delivery=1) and it's under $30! 14. Bill Gates probably has a watch like that.
I don't wear a watch.
I typically work 80 hour weeks, and if I can get away,
I take a day cruise or go somewhere out of reach because if they need me, they will send a couple
of guys out to get me, even if I turn the phone off.

15. Hermes is NOT principally a watch maker and didn't start manufacturing watches until the mid-1970s. Despite the amount of money they are now spending to "legitimize" themselves, you can pay the same amount ($25k)as the watch shown above (and in most cases far less) for a far superior watch such as a Cartier; Chopard; Patek Phillipe; Piaget; or even a bulky Rolex. All these companies have been in business and making watches for more than 100 years.
ANYONE who spend money on a Hermes watch has checked his/her common sense at the door!

17. I have a Bulova white gold watch with diamonds that my Grandfather gave to my Mother when she graduated in 1950. It is self winding and I wear it nearly everyday. My Mom told me my Grandfather paid about 200.00 for the watch. Still in perfect working condition!

18. Why would you want a watch that you can't wear anywhere? If you fall, have a accident or get caught in a flood, storm, winter ice pileup, your expensive watch will be destroyed. How about that ! You can't even wear a nice Rolex anywhere without wondering who is going to cut your hand off in the parking lot to get it. Just buy a watch you wouldn't mind loosing. maybe a $50. Timex.

19. The really really rich wear Rolex or something else
and cheaper. Only those that want to spend every dime they have to show off buy these off breed expensive watches. A Rolex will be worth more every year, if you don't wear it and keep it nice.

20. Hermes decided to throw their name on a watch simply because they have a devout clan of followers who do not have a clue about what embodies a true luxury time piece. I bet the parts for the watch cost less than 5K, the other 20K you would be spending, benifits the company. They get advertisment that the CONSUMER pays for. Idiots!
