The issue of age-appropriate dressing has long piqued the interest of many men and women of all ages. Some agree, while others take offense. Should a 15 year old and a 35 year old shop in the same department? There has to be a line drawn somewhere, should the juniors department should be off limits to individuals of a certain age? Perhaps the issue of figure-appropriate dressing should also be included in this discussion. Should you flaunt it if you've got it? Or flatter your figure in tasteful, stylish looks? We can all admire and don the same trends, but each in a different way. The skinny jean is still a hot trend and can be worn by women of all ages. But not all women should wear the SAME pair of skinny jeans.
These are perfect for your tween:
While the higher rise on these will flatter Mom. For those looking for a modest fit and a hint of control, this pair is perfect for you too:
This pair is perfect for the 20 and 30-somethings:
We can all follow the trends, look fabulous and age-appropriate!
However, there are certain fashions that continually top the "don't" list because they aren't flattering on any body of any age. Keep this in mind when you are championing the capri pant. Do exposed ankles keep you that much cooler in hot weather? Your legs appear short and stumpy, even if heels are worn. Why not opt for a flowing skirt? Remember ladies, just because it's comfortable and easy, doesn't mean it's flattering and stylish. Otherwise the muu muu would be a best-seller!

1. I'm shocked about the capri length pants. The cover the wrinkled thighs but yet you can still feel cool down here in hot sunny Florida.

2. I disagree. Article that implied capri pants are NOT appropriate over 40...would rather see a 40+ woman in
capri pants vs. shorts. Think discretion is the key but not ready to hang up the capri pants or semi-low rise jeans yet...help! I'm a thirty year old trapped in the body of a fossil at 55!

3. I live in MS along the coast and I draw the line at not wearing Capri's! He needs to visit here and wear a full suit and stand outside for a few hours in the mid day!

5. If women over 40 cannot wear capri length pants, just what are they to wear on a casual day in the summer? Full length slacks or skirts don't work on the golf course. I think capri's look great on all age groups!

7. I really don't care what you say about capri pants I'm 56 and I know I look good in my capri pants. I know what looks good on me.I would'nt wear shorts, skirts that showed my butt. there are very nice capri sets and suits that look good at any age. any I don't like telling me what to wear. all you need is common sense.

10. I wear capris. I also have the 'taboo' long hair and I am 57 years young! I don't care what somebody says I should or shouldn't wear. I wear what I like and what I am comfortable in.

11. I wear capri pants because I AM over 40! With broken veins and other "benefits" of aging I wouldn't wear shorts if you paid me.

12. Pleated pants have been out of style for a decade. Double-Breasted Blazers are out, too.
I am over 40, but have a much younger looking body and you can bet I'll be wearing Capris and Low riding jeans!

13. who cares what people "think" other's should wear...
capri pants for the 40+ women spare everyone from having to look at legs that need exercise, have varicose veins and make the person wearing them cool and comfortable in summer.
I'm one of those people so I can say this. Go critique the slutty looking young girls who shouldn't even leave the house looking the way they do.

14. OK if your over 40 and a fat as* yea don't wear some of the things listed but whrat if your in shape I see nothing wrong with capri pants. I did not know clothing had a age warning on ithem. This is so stupid and very insulting to over 40 women who are in shape and look good in what ever they wear.......

15. I am 52 years old and have no intention of giving up my comfortable,"relaxed fit" capris for summer wear. Believe me, I'm not one to wear too-tight, over revealing clothes! What? Some "fashionnazi" can't stand to see a middle-aged womans' calves?? Gimme a break! Nancy from MI.

16. I agree with all these comments and not what the style guru thinks, he is dead wrong. I would like to see what he is wearing in 90 degree weather. Not to mention the geeky pants he says woman over 40 should be wearing, is all the high waisted pants do is make your pouch look even bigger. He is clueless. If you decide to wear low rise jeans, just make sure your shirt is long enough. What because we are over 40 we must wear old lady clothing, I think not!!!! This angers me alot!!!!!

17. This is nonsense. Age appropriateness of clothing has nothing to do with numerical age and everything to do with how well a woman maintains her health and her overall luck in the genetics pool with respect to wrinkles. I can't believe how angry I am at this twit's opinion. I will be 49 next month and I can assure you that my capri pants and flared leg, low waisted jeans are not leaving my closet any time soon. True, I don't wear jeans as low as my daughters do, but I'm not wearing them up around my belly button either!

18. OK I am 47 almost 48 in shape and my youngest daughter is 28 she wears a size 5 and so do I, Guess who gets all the clothes she no longer wants I love it, She has some awesome clothing and I will wear whatever I want as long as it looks good. How can some man be a fashions consult for women any way what an idiot he is.

19. I'm 54 years old, weigh 103 pounds, and have no problem wearing capris! I'd never wear shorts above midthigh, but have no reason to think because I'm over 40 that I have to get rid of the capris! It's darn hot here in AZ and a little cooling relief is necessary!

20. I am appalled that someone feels they can tells those of us who are over 40 what we should and should not wear. If it looks good and you feel good in in than wear it!! No matter what age you are, you must dress according to your build and style and how you feel about yourself when you look in the mirror and we as adult women are smart enough to look in the mirror and say: yes! this looks good, or: Oh my goodness!! No way.
For goodness sake, give us a little credit out there.
