The issue of age-appropriate dressing has long piqued the interest of many men and women of all ages. Some agree, while others take offense. Should a 15 year old and a 35 year old shop in the same department? There has to be a line drawn somewhere, should the juniors department should be off limits to individuals of a certain age? Perhaps the issue of figure-appropriate dressing should also be included in this discussion. Should you flaunt it if you've got it? Or flatter your figure in tasteful, stylish looks? We can all admire and don the same trends, but each in a different way. The skinny jean is still a hot trend and can be worn by women of all ages. But not all women should wear the SAME pair of skinny jeans.
These are perfect for your tween:
While the higher rise on these will flatter Mom. For those looking for a modest fit and a hint of control, this pair is perfect for you too:
This pair is perfect for the 20 and 30-somethings:
We can all follow the trends, look fabulous and age-appropriate!
However, there are certain fashions that continually top the "don't" list because they aren't flattering on any body of any age. Keep this in mind when you are championing the capri pant. Do exposed ankles keep you that much cooler in hot weather? Your legs appear short and stumpy, even if heels are worn. Why not opt for a flowing skirt? Remember ladies, just because it's comfortable and easy, doesn't mean it's flattering and stylish. Otherwise the muu muu would be a best-seller!
Agree? Or disagree, defend the capri pant. Share your comments with us. See fashion tips for men here.

401. I would rather wear capris than shorts. Linen blend are the most flattering and can be dressed up or down and are coolest on hazy, hot, and humid days. Who says they aren't for the over 40 girls...Have you looked at the ones in shorts-oh my!!!

402. I am a 45 yr old woman who DOES wear capri pants. Now, I am 6' tall, so capri's on me almost look like a bermuda short. I can even buy misses jeans in "short" and use them for capri's. However, I HATE anyone at any age that wears capris and they come right above their ankles and they look like Hi-waters. Ladies, if a pair of capris hit your any longer than right below your knee or on your high calf, just don't wear them. They look ridiculous! I could only hope that a pair of capri's would make me look "Shorter". This piece of clothing was definitely made for tall, long=legged people.

403. Well, I am not one to follow fashion trends, because they are mostly designed to sell clothes, so stylists, designers and retail stores continue to spend a lot of money convincing the consumer that what is new is needed. When I shop, I look for and buy what looks good on me. Now of course at 57 years old I am not about to wear a mini skirt or hip hugger jeans, but capri pants made from linen with a bohemian shirt looks great on me. As does a well fitting pair of jeans and a t shirt for my body type. I am young at heart and my body is in fairly good shape. I say all that to say ladies, dress for yourself, with good taste, not for the designers or the trend du jour.

406. I am 54 and loving it. I think that capris are great for any age. Has this person truly looked at women or understands how fashionable we as women look in capris. The thing is to dress will style and in clothes that as not too tight or short. But we should keep our capris.

409. It is completely idiotic to just say capris make your legs look short and stumpy- as if it is true for everyone. Different styles are flattering to different body types. This is true regardless of age. Capris will look better on a slim, long-legged 60 year old than on a plump, short-legged 20 year old.

410. I'm glad to see everyone agree the no capri thing is bull...and the advice on wearing high waisted pants...if I wore them with my short waist and long legs they would be the poster for the Sat.night live skit on "Mom jeans". I am 45 and look 35 so I'm told and often tell my 15 yr. old daughter that what she would like to see me wear is too young. I think you listen to "expert" advise but then you make your own informed decision, as with anything in life.

412. Has anyone out there heard of the hip-T? It is a GREAT invention to go along with all these cute jeans. It is just the bottom half of a t-shirt you pull on to add a layer w/o the upper bulk and it helps with your undies showing when you bend over etc.. I have a few and they are cool.(cute colors and prints too)
just thought i'd share

413. I love Capri pants. I am 51 and 4ft 8" with a size 12 body. I do not have to hem them. I search the racks till I find them. Please do not take them away. Finding anything that looks good on me is hard. Look at the racks of clothes, all are low rise hip pants. I hate them, they do not sit on my hips. Besides this belly of loose skin from 2 babies is not what I want to show the public. You want to talk Petite, well I don't think someone 5ft 4 is petite.

414. I am 53 and sick to death of age descrimination at work etc. Don;t tell us how to dress! I wear a 6L and what? you think I should wear a housecoat like my Grandma did at my age , She was a sz 24 1/2 so I guess size matters.

415. I love capris! This guy knows nothing. Some people can't wear shorts for whatever reason and I think capris look great on everyone. I'm 50 and I wear whatever looks good on me. I don't listen to this stuff.

416. I feel that since women are the primary shoppers, we should be able to purchase whatever and I mean WHATEVER, we want to wear. First of all, if I recall correctly, CAPRIS (when they were popular) were being advertised all over the place as the item to buy. Now fasion guru's tell us what to buy - what a laugh - have you seen what some of these fashion guru's wear.
We should be able to purchase what we like and what we feel comfortable in. We've come a long way - don't let other alleged fashion guru's, advertisements, etc. change who you are and how you feel about yourself. It's all about finding yourself, loving yourself and being yourself. Don't get caught up in all this fashion nonense. We as women have to appreciate who were are and the fact that we can make our own decisions. Do not leave "your decisions about your clothing taste and how you feel about yourself" to others.

417. Capri pants are not flattering to anyone. I don't care what you say, they make even a tall, thin model look like a stump. I just wear lighter weight clothing and live with it. (it is very hot and humid here in GA) And about those dirty feet sticking out of your sandals.....

418. Never heard anything so ridiculous in my life!! Once you're over 40 life is about being more comfortable. What's a girl to do with bad legs and hot summer days in Texas. I will not conform! We mustn't let Oprah and her gurus don't know everything.
