The issue of age-appropriate dressing has long piqued the interest of many men and women of all ages. Some agree, while others take offense. Should a 15 year old and a 35 year old shop in the same department? There has to be a line drawn somewhere, should the juniors department should be off limits to individuals of a certain age? Perhaps the issue of figure-appropriate dressing should also be included in this discussion. Should you flaunt it if you've got it? Or flatter your figure in tasteful, stylish looks? We can all admire and don the same trends, but each in a different way. The skinny jean is still a hot trend and can be worn by women of all ages. But not all women should wear the SAME pair of skinny jeans.
These are perfect for your tween:
While the higher rise on these will flatter Mom. For those looking for a modest fit and a hint of control, this pair is perfect for you too:
This pair is perfect for the 20 and 30-somethings:
We can all follow the trends, look fabulous and age-appropriate!
However, there are certain fashions that continually top the "don't" list because they aren't flattering on any body of any age. Keep this in mind when you are championing the capri pant. Do exposed ankles keep you that much cooler in hot weather? Your legs appear short and stumpy, even if heels are worn. Why not opt for a flowing skirt? Remember ladies, just because it's comfortable and easy, doesn't mean it's flattering and stylish. Otherwise the muu muu would be a best-seller!

441. # 13 You said exactly what I was thinking!

442. Oh great, now they want to take something away that has been sooo comfortable and neat looking for me! It gets d... hot in Tucson Arizona and I'm sure as heck not going to wear shorts or long pants. I'm 64 yrs old, and not slender by any means...oh yeah burmuda shorts and a long skirt would look better on me. NOT! And this fashion advice is from an industry that brought us the ugly 70's look. POLYESTER.

443. I disagree with you entirely ... in your story about the 'awkward length of capris' .. I think in every picture the capri looked better than your supposedly fashion guru's choice. Capri's are comfortable, they look nice (certainly much better than the goofy looking skirt & dress you tried to promote). Women love them .. so quit trying to impose your stupid ideas on us.

444. Pleated slacks, double breasted blazer hitting mid thigh??? Can you even find any of that in stores now??? Come one- this dude is clueless especialy when it comes to capri pants. I suspect this is a marketing research tool to see how women resond to it. There is no way this list of don'ts is to be taken seriously.
It is just another form of getting your opinion with out making a call.

445. You know what?.....I think capri pants are flattering on all body types...I am 57,a plus size woman and have great looking calves and I wear capris from now until it gets cool. If you take a look at yourself
in a full length mirror.._front AND back...particularly
the back and don't wear plaids or unflattering prints then there is nothing wrong with capris at any size. I get so mad at larger built women who don't dress for their size. I have been a large woman all my life and get complimented all the time on my clothes and how I look. So don't tell me that I shouldn't wear capris.

446. Capri pants are a horrid fashion statement. Only women over 5' 10'' have enough leg to look good in them. I'm 5'3'' and look even shorter and dumpier in them. Please, take them off the market. Why can't women over 40 wear low rise jeans? Stacey Clinton put a pair of low rise levis on a 30 something gal on What not to wear.

447. I am 59 yrs old and think Capris are the best thing to happen in the fashion world. I don't feel comfortable wearing shorts anymore. I love capris because you can wear dressy ones or wear jean capris for the casual look. I hope they stay in style a very long time. It is hard to shop for a woman my age anymore. The tops are too short, too tight, and cut to low in the front. I do wish more fashion designers would address these issues also. I want to dress fashionbly, but also don't want to look like I am trying to dress like I am a teen-ager.

448. Capri pants are far more acceptable than shorts for a mature woman. Skirts are not always appropriate such as in gardening. Pants are much too hot in summer. You must choose the proper color and cut for your body and they are fine.

449. I will be 65 and wear capris. I intend to wear them till i am at least 96. They are much more flattering than shorts and skirts cannot be used in many places such as doing out door chores with the wind blowing. Long pants are too hot and uncomfortable in summetime. Only a fool would wear those when it is hot.

450. I never wear capris because it's not flatting for me. Like my butt. They look good on people that are not over weight.
I certainly do not want to wear something that looks to young on me, so I apperiate the help.

451. Tim Gunn is probably agist and sexist.
Capris are perfect for anyone who wants to feel comfortable in hot weather but doesn't have perfect legs for shorts.

452. Another example of the very definition of fashion: Let's get them to toss what they have and go buy whatever they don't already have in their closets!

453. I agree with the rest of the flock of over 40 and 50 somethings. At 51, I'd rather be modest yet cool here in South Florida and capri's fit the bill for me nearly year round in a variety of fabrics. My biggest challenge is finding them in petite sizes so they are the appropriate capri length and not look like I'm expecting a flash flood. LONG LIVE THE CAPRI!

454. I agree with the comments; capris are great. I suspect this was actually an ad for capris. Notice how each "slide" had a link to a website selling them?

455. We have exercised, taken spin classes, drank gallons of only the finest water and YET! The dimples on our thighs which announce themselves the first part of spring continue to hangon for first billing and ruin opening night! Then along came capri's, fun, flirty, multi tiers of options and self conciousness took a dive on the dow market that day.I like capri's and I am 48 years young. For mardi gras, jazz fest, or just a second line stomp they are always appropo. It would seem the critics are men, and it would seem they are bucking for more leg. I promise you if i came walking in front of you in some stretch white capris and strappy heels on a summer day you mr man would follow me and applaud. It is not if you should wear them, its HOW you should wear them.

456. I'm 59 years young and I'd rather be comfortable and sophisticated in capris rather than being seen wearing shorts in the heat of the summer! What should we wear to stay somewhat cool if capris are out???
