The issue of age-appropriate dressing has long piqued the interest of many men and women of all ages. Some agree, while others take offense. Should a 15 year old and a 35 year old shop in the same department? There has to be a line drawn somewhere, should the juniors department should be off limits to individuals of a certain age? Perhaps the issue of figure-appropriate dressing should also be included in this discussion. Should you flaunt it if you've got it? Or flatter your figure in tasteful, stylish looks? We can all admire and don the same trends, but each in a different way. The skinny jean is still a hot trend and can be worn by women of all ages. But not all women should wear the SAME pair of skinny jeans.
These are perfect for your tween:
While the higher rise on these will flatter Mom. For those looking for a modest fit and a hint of control, this pair is perfect for you too:
This pair is perfect for the 20 and 30-somethings:
We can all follow the trends, look fabulous and age-appropriate!
However, there are certain fashions that continually top the "don't" list because they aren't flattering on any body of any age. Keep this in mind when you are championing the capri pant. Do exposed ankles keep you that much cooler in hot weather? Your legs appear short and stumpy, even if heels are worn. Why not opt for a flowing skirt? Remember ladies, just because it's comfortable and easy, doesn't mean it's flattering and stylish. Otherwise the muu muu would be a best-seller!
Agree? Or disagree, defend the capri pant. Share your comments with us. See fashion tips for men here.

121. Flowing Skirts versus Capri-Pants and Low Rise Jeans. I am 60+ and wear capri-pants/low rise jeans. I get compliments every time I wear capris and especially low rise jeans. I would not trade them for the world. Women are not living in ancient times anymore. Get Real Tim Gunn!

122. Tim Who? I never heard of this jerk. If he wants to give his mother advice, fine, but leave the rest of the women alone. I wear what I want and that includes Bermuda Shorts and Capris.

123. We all have seen you on TV and I seen you in person.
there is a tad snobbishness about you and that does nor relate to any women especially when you want to dictate US what to wear after 40 and what NOT to wear.
Sorry stick to your fashion ELITE world that no normal every day women in America can afford or would want.

124. Since when is 40 old?

125. How about skirts instead of capris? For some reason almost all women, esp women over 40, wearing them look squat/boxy and appear to have shortened tubby legs. But, what's wrong with long riding style jackets below the hip?

126. No fashion Guru called Mr Gunn can tell women not to wear capri's. This person is a homosexual and not connected to the real women world.
You should see that locthes he endorses in NY
unbeliefable, you need a 20 grand a year budget to stick tohis plan's. MEN stop telling women what's right or wrong, go look at yourself you are the slob's of the country these day's.

127. Go check the MALE'S of America and find something they do wrong, we women are SICK of men telling us whats right or wrong after 40.
Women should NOT buy into this dictator talk from a
homosexual male no less. He does not relate to our world at all. I will wear capri's like it or not and no male will tell me anything including my own husband
what is correct or not.

128. # 132
You are right it is all connected to body type and how a person looks and feel's. NO male shoud dictate any women what to do with her looks. I seen your clothing Mr GUNN in NY and they where frumpy for the over the 40 set. Keep them and your high uppy world.

129. Hey, I am 60 years old and I love my capri pants. Geesh. I do not wear the low rise jeans because my waist is too small in comparison to my hips, not because I am too old. When I was 20 I couldn't wear the "hip hugger" pants because I have always had an hour glass figure, as I do now. The hour glass isn't the same, but still an hour glass, and the low rise gap in the waist. I will not wear my grandmother's printed dresses with nylons!!!! 60 is the new 40 don't you know!

130. Again I say yippee kay-yeah to all you guys. From a 48 y.o. If these so-called fashionistas could come up with their own cool fashions instead of stealing hiphuggers from 33 years ago and reworking them into "low-rise" jeans, well we might try those.I look the same in bell bottoms now as I did when I was 14. And all the REAL men dig my look. Even the young whippersnappers.

131. This guy is a jackass!! Actually, I think capris look much better on the older woman than the younger. They are dressy, fashionable and can make one look very elegant with the proper accessories. Doesn't look like any of us "over 40 ladies" are giving up our capris!

133. I'm 42 and live in South Florida. I wear a size 2 or 4 depending on the manufacturer, and my wardrobe includes plenty of low rise jeans and capri pants. I exercise regularly and am in very good shape, but do not wear short shorts or skirts, or anything that bares my midriff. Whoever came up with this list has a screw loose.

134. Notice
whenever there is a slow newsday it's picking on women's fashion the do's and the dont's.

135. BUTTONS, I agree with you. I too am an older woman. I am 49 yrs. young. I am 5'8" tall and weigh 115 lbs. I sport long hair and a toned body. I look great in everything. I know not to wear mini-skirts, coochie cutters and tees above my belly button; even though I have a piercing, for private showing only.

136. What fool says you should not wear Capri's over 40.. Stop And get a clue, everyone out there makes them and they are very comfortable and you can dress them up with heals and a nice blouse.
As for low rise amongst hipper huggers, let me ask wear do you find cloths to fit for someone thats a size 2 or 4 thats not a petite. I am 42 years old and I've looked everywhere and I have to go into the teen section to get pants that fit right.. Now whats wrong with this picture??

137. I am 50 and in great shape. I wear capris and double breasted blazers and look fabulous in both. I also walk six miles a day, take good care of myself and have a total disregard for what so-called fashion experts have to say. Your "fashion guru" is wrong. Double breasted blazers are a classic and classics always become a classy lady. Mature women who take pride in their appearance are completely capable of choosing their own flattering wardrobe.

138. Most younger women do not even wear capri's it's strictly jeans for them. Who listen's to males anyway, NOT me. My own husband would not have the gut's to say something like this because the average MALE dont even notice these things. They are from another planet to begin with

139. what in the world is wrong with capris?????
Posted at 7:31PM on Feb 27th 2008 by debbie
140. Who does he think he is telling me that I can't wear capri's or low rise jeans? Obviously he hasn't tried to wear a pair of jeans at his waist and have them cut off his circulation. I had much rather go out in public in capri's than in shorts and dealing with a long flowing skirt while shopping at Walmart is nobody's idea of fun. He needs to get with the program!
