The issue of age-appropriate dressing has long piqued the interest of many men and women of all ages. Some agree, while others take offense. Should a 15 year old and a 35 year old shop in the same department? There has to be a line drawn somewhere, should the juniors department should be off limits to individuals of a certain age? Perhaps the issue of figure-appropriate dressing should also be included in this discussion. Should you flaunt it if you've got it? Or flatter your figure in tasteful, stylish looks? We can all admire and don the same trends, but each in a different way. The skinny jean is still a hot trend and can be worn by women of all ages. But not all women should wear the SAME pair of skinny jeans.
These are perfect for your tween:
While the higher rise on these will flatter Mom. For those looking for a modest fit and a hint of control, this pair is perfect for you too:
This pair is perfect for the 20 and 30-somethings:
We can all follow the trends, look fabulous and age-appropriate!
However, there are certain fashions that continually top the "don't" list because they aren't flattering on any body of any age. Keep this in mind when you are championing the capri pant. Do exposed ankles keep you that much cooler in hot weather? Your legs appear short and stumpy, even if heels are worn. Why not opt for a flowing skirt? Remember ladies, just because it's comfortable and easy, doesn't mean it's flattering and stylish. Otherwise the muu muu would be a best-seller!
Agree? Or disagree, defend the capri pant. Share your comments with us. See fashion tips for men here.

141. Mr GUNN
go take a cruise and take your gun with you because
you would blow your brain's out if you see all the capri's on these cruises for the older set of people.
They look good they are fine for any age providing they fit nicely and are not sloppy.

142. Never mind capris--at least they hide a multitude of wrinkles on the thighs--what should be added to the list as a NOT TO WEAR after 40 is leggings!! The only individuals who can get away with those are slim, teenagers! They should stop making them at size 6!!

143. This is a free country - wear whatever you want to! Someone needs to tell those so-called "Fashion Experts" to go and get real jobs!

144. Well I disagree with most of what Bobbi said , we are as old as we feel and age is just a number, I agree with taking care of our bodies and skin, but as for wearing capris and low rise jeans, what a bunch of rubbish! I look good in both and do not look like my daughter, I will not look like an old lady and if Bobbi wants to then that is her choice, but dos and donts are for the birds!!!!

145. I am 53 years old with the body of a 30 year old! I work very hard to keep it that way, especially since I am a truck driver! I don't wear large sizes! actually a 10 top and 8 pants! I wear low rise as I have a short waist ( which is really what these pants were designed for to begin with!) I'd much rather see a lady dressed comfortable yet tasteful! He needs to be telling all the fatties to quit wearing low rise pants with tank tops and their fat hanging all over the tops!

146. I do not agree at all with this article. I am 110 lbs, 51 yrs old and get many compliments when i wear my capris and low rise jeans. I do not show any skin of course when wearing my jeans, but i look just fine in them. Everyone is different. Not all clothes look good on everyone. You can't put an age limit to certain articles of clothing. As long as you look good go for it!

147. Hey girls, I'm almost 70 and I'll never give up my capris or low rise jeans. Like another lady said, I don't wear them as low as my 16 year old Grandaughter but they are comfortable and I love them. I also have the taboo long hair, I have not gone grey yet and until I do, not shortie for me.

148. I agree with skin and body at age 40+, but not the rest! Age is just a number that is all....I will wear my capris and low rise jeans with pride that I look fabulous and not inappropriate. Bobbi can be the 'old' lady, I for one embrace my age and how good I look!!

149. Oh my gosh. I live in capri pants in the summer. I would never go out in the public in shorts. I am past 65 and feel that is a real slap in the face. I see ladies of all ages wearing capris.

150. Please! As we all know, physically fit, slender to moderate weight individuals with good posture look well in almost anything, including the "No No over 40 " clothing items. The "rule" is rediculous and simply provacative to ellicit comment. Individuals of ANY age including those who are overweight, from ages 10 to 95, may wear as they please, and if they CARE,(not all do, and this is fine) might assess their own physical features, then analyze and chose what styles are most complimentary to themselves. I am a 47 year- old 5' 1", 100 pound female, pay attention to my diet, health, looks, and fashion, and plan to disobey such silly constraining "rules" until I drop from old age! I would love the opportunity to critique the author(s)!

151. I don't get the Capri thing. Please explain. That's all I ever wear in the summer. I am 60 and would never wear shorts but Capri's is a different story. What would you wear? Doesn't make much sense to me.

152. I 'm over 40 and I hate Capris thinking they are an ugly length but.....I've found that they can be attractive on taller or long legged women regardless of age.

153. I'm over 40 - which means I'm old enough to make up my own mind ;D. This young lady likes capri's and low riders. I feel comfortable and confident. Need I say more.

154. YES! Capri wearers over forty UNITE!!!!! Wear them with PRIDE ... that we can't is a BUNCH OF Crap! Hahaha .... what are we supposed to Sweat all summer? Perhaps we should wear our short shorts????

155. I am 46 years old and have been told I look in my 30's,
capri pants flatter legs and don't make them look "pudgy" as that man said. Besides, why do they have them in the "women's" section of department stores!!

156. I'm currently 35 and look better than I ever did when I was a teenager or even in my 20's. I finally can wear what I want and look great. No way do I ever plan on changing my wardrobe when I reach 40, 50 and so on. Statements like this make women feel like they should just give up on being young . . .when we are in fact striving to take care of ourselves, exercise, eat right, etc. I wear capris, low rise, baby tees and whatever looks good on me and my figure. I think the issue is more with the teenagers who are 175 lbs trying to wear low rise jeans with their "muffin tops". Age has nothing to do with it and NO MAN should ever tell us that we are too old to wear cool clothes.

157. This is titled The Great Debate but there doesn't seem to be much debate. Capri pants are flattering for all ages. I have them in khakis, black, jeans, peach, and many more. I am over 40 and have muscular calves from years of running, and am fairly thin. I love the capris with heels, and they don't make me (or anyone) look stumpy!
Any jeans should go by the fit and where your weight is concentrated; this isn't age-related either.
I agree with the other posters- what a bunch of crap!

158. No capris over 40 - that's ridiculous! Hey if you have a great figure and take care of yourself with exercise and diet - I bet any woman over forty will look great in capris!

159. I agree with most of the comments. Capris are perfect for any age! And Hip hugger jeans fit me 10 times better than high waisted pants. I'm 50 and 125 lb. Not skinny, but not fat either. With the right shirt, either type of pants would look good.

160. Gunn usually has good advice. I am afraid he has seen too many out of shape 50 year old women! I am conservative in my dress and am comfortable in my own skin. I will not listen to silly advice about not wearing capris, lower rise jeans or horizontal stipes. If you look good in what you wear and it is occasion appropriate, then just do it!
