Is it fair to have to certain trends for certain ages? We felt that some trends are just not suitable for women who are over 40. Does a 50 year old woman really need to wear "Key West" or anything else for that matter, across her backside?
Let us know if you think that certain trends are only OK for certain ages or if we should all just toss the rules of fashion out the window and wear what you want to wear... no matter how old you are.

1281. I dont think anyone has the right to tell anyone what to wear. Unlike all these women with kick ass bodies as they say, thats great. I wasted many years worrying about what people thought about how I looked. I however, dont have a kick ass body but love myself just the same. I am over 60 and have a great man who loves me just the way I am. By the way, I am a biker and my wardrobe includes lots of denim, leather and the color BLACK. So be yourself and wear what pleases YOU and not whoever sees you. You only get one chance at life so enjoy while you can.

1282. I agree with most for me, however, I like the empire waste shirts and dresses, not necessary the baby dolls. I am 62 and I feel and act like 32, and probably look more like 52. I will always dress younger because that is how I feel and it really doesn't matter to me what anyone else thinks except my husband.

1283. Why hell's bell's y'all...I wear Crocs & a babydoll top & sweat's that say Hot Mama on the rear all at the same time. That's why I won Miss Trailer Park 2008. Y'all are jest jealous. I'm 44 and my 30 year old daughter and I could pass for sisters. Her youngin' is 16 and looks hot in her sweats that say Sweet Lovin' in the Oven on her butt. We're talkin real fashion but the added plus is she bought them jest before she got pregnant and Lord o'goshin' they still look good on her 7 month pregnant hiney.

1284. My mother is 78 years old and can actually pull off capri leggings with a Tunic type tee AND crocks, which she wears when she goes to work out so I think there are exceptions to every rule.

1286. Fist of all... It is none of our business what other people wear!! If YOU like it, wear it. If you don't like what someone else is wearing DON'T look. I feel like we are back at our school age when I have actually heard people snickering or (worse) loudly commenting on someone's wardrobe! Get over it ! There are so many other things to worry about in this day and age. Second of all..... I live in Key West. We promote "One Human Family". Third ... I grew up down here so... bikini's, crocs, backpacks, shorts (with or without writing on the backside) is a way of life down here. But, oh (at times) I miss the early 70's. The era where people were more concerned with peace and love than they were with what anyone else is wearing. I am 52 and in GREAT shape. (Yes, I have children and 2 grandchildren.) Me, personally, I LOVE shoes, good handbags and I like to go nude! I'll see you upstairs at the Garden of Eden!! PS The alternatives you showed are nothing I would pick out.

1287. I agree with all this advice, except the idea of biking and needing to carry your things, the backpack is the only option. As long as its a nice clean-looking and nothing juvenile on it, I think its fine. I'd rather be seen with a backpack than a fanny-pack! OMG..those are awful! LOL The other advices are right on the nail. :)

1290. I agree with the above, however, why doesn't someone get to the designers and tell them to stop making tops that look like maternity wear, also, get rid of the long sleeves that hang over your hands. Endless hours of shopping to find a nice top to wear with pants that doesn't have either baby doll sleeves, englongated arms, or pleats in the front that makes you look like you are expecting. Conservative straight nice lines are gone.

1291. Who made the decision to draw the line at 40y/o & over? Why 40? Why not 50 or 60y/o...or back it up; why not 30y/o. One individual or even a group gets to decide what age group should wear what? Who appointed these people & why does there even have to be a 'line drawn', so to speak? I think most women are 'adult' enough to decide for themselves what is appropriate for them.

1292. Generally, I don't think that people should tell others how to dress or how not to dress. This kind of authoritarianism is all too prevalent in our country and it sucks the creativity and individualism out of people. I like it when people dress to express themselves - very much like artists do with their paint. I would rather see the real person, not the person who is trying to placate society.
I'm in my forties and I live in an urban area so I have to carry a small backpack whenever I am out walking around - it's just the safest and most practical thing to do. If I look stupid, so be it.
Having said all that, taste and dignity are important as you get older and moderation can enhance one's presentation of themselves for sure.

1293. At 52, if I had the body to wear a bikini, I would wear it proudly. Arthritis (4 different kinds) has taken it's toll. What I didn't lose do to lack of proper exercise the arthritis deformed. I am now enrolled in an arthritic aqua-aerobics class in a warm water pool and I'm going to get strong and healthy again. My bathing suit is ugly with a tear in it...I bought a pair of cheap sport shorts, and yes they have the name 'Reebok' across the backside...I'm not in a fashion show, I'm there to get back in shape. Three years is a long time to be house-bound with no exercise and no emotional support from my family. I'm determined to prove to these people that I'm not a crippled hagget from haggetville...Mom's back in the race! Ladies if you've got it, flaunt it! Life is way too short to worry about what other people think of you! Live LARGE and ENJOY yourselves!

1295. I think this article was ridiculous! You should be able to wear whatever you want! One good think about reaching a certain age is you have earned the right to wear what you want. I think leggings should be worn with tunics! I am 60 and still wear my jeans. I think you wear what you feel good in not what someone says you should wear. We don't all have the money to buy certain things they want us to have. BE YOURSELF!

1296. Im an older woman. I see young and old women dressing either appropriately or inappropriately; they can look foolish or great. How we dress ourselves mostly reveals how we feel about ourselves and our lives. Society tries to define how we need to look in our clothes. For example, I read that women over a certain age should never wear capris. I did not listen because capris are comfortable and relaxed which expressed how I was feeling about life. Critics will continue to point fingers for various reasons. Presently, I think with the economy taking a nose dive, we should be more concerned about being able to find clothes to buy in the near future....
