Is it fair to have to certain trends for certain ages? We felt that some trends are just not suitable for women who are over 40. Does a 50 year old woman really need to wear "Key West" or anything else for that matter, across her backside?
Let us know if you think that certain trends are only OK for certain ages or if we should all just toss the rules of fashion out the window and wear what you want to wear... no matter how old you are.

121. I am not certain who authored this article/pictorial, but I can tell you that you are misguided.
If a woman has a body and looks that refelct that she has let herself go, then I would agree. However, there are many women well over 40 who dress younger and look great doing so. I am all for it. Major high fives to women over forty who take pride in their appearance and work hard to maintain good looks and a good figure. These are "in charge" women who don't make excuses but take action. These are awesome women and just the kind I prefer for companionship. If you are ready to sit on the porch, do your knitting and watch the sun go down, slip your head to toe length cotton nightgown on and go to sleep with "Pa" everynight, then you are not the person I am speaking of. The person I am speaking of has a career(either at home or in the office) and sees herself as being and thinking young regardless of her chrononlogical age. Ready for the rocker? Then this is not you. This is the generation that has been the most progressive, trend setting generation in the history of our country that is heading towards retirement age(50-70)and we will not go quietly into the night. Ladies, embrace your youth. Be the most that you can be. If you can still pull off a bikini and dance until 2 a.m., go for it. If you have the figure and great legs, wear the shorter skirts. If you have a great chest, show some cleavage(tastefully). Don't let anyone tell you that you are too old and that you need to dress like grandma's. Embrace the "babe's" that you are. You aren't nearly finished, you are just getting started.

122. I would like to add that your advice on Crocs should be extended to ALL women over the age of eight. The clunkiness of the Croc is apparent both before and after forty.

123. Ok i do agree with all the suggestions, however Im 5'1" 105 lbs and wear a juniors size 1. The problem? Im 48 yrs old! I can not find nice clothes or even clothes that fit me well in the dept suited for my age! Many womens sizes or even missy sizes start at a size 4 or 6 and they are WAY too big fir me as theyre cut bigger! I shop in the juniors department, but I am VERy careful and mindful of what styles Ill wear and what will just look ridiculous! I refuse to look like a old lady trying to look like a teenager! I have to say Target has a good selection that can be worn by almost anyone! I also find the Mossimo brand fits very nicely too!

124. I disagree with this article completely. Back in the 50's women were told to cut their hair short when they hit 30. All that did was alert everyone that you had reached 30. I think articles like these are written by people UNDER 40 who don't want competition from those of us who are still hot. We've all seen the younger man/older woman trend really taking off, and for damn good reason. A lot of us are still gorgeous, uninhibited, and we've still got it going on. So you want us to take ourselves out of the running for those beautiful young hunks voluntarily, or let our husbands yearn for something younger -- well, no way honey. I've got no midriff bulge, no cellulite, no sagging and I look great wearing not much. Eat your heart out, out-of-shape under-40s.

125. I think you should wear whatever looks good, and not just what's in style. Some people look great in their 40's......youthful. However, some of those empire waist dresses are awful on people over 50!!! Too kiddish looking. Yet, some of the clothes in the women's departments are so old lady looking. We need more classy looking tops and dresses!!!

126. Wearing age innappropriate clothes will make you look older than you think you look in the mirror. your skin texture is older, tell tale signs of aging that you haven't noticed have creept up and the idea is to gently cover them. I firmly believe that no woman over the age of 40 shoukd wear a sleeveless anything. There is nothing attractive about a woman's underarm or outerarm. Although they think they look fine it really is visual pollution. A more finished look and finer look would be short sleeve or a long sleeve rolled up. Jeans on women over 40 is outrageous. You are not your daughter's girlfriend. She has enough of those. Get over it. You look frumpy, sloppy and you look like you want to be 20 again. wear them when you are riding a horse or wearing your blue eye shadow!!!!!I don't care if you are a size 0 it is age innapproprate. If you are going to camp put them in your trunk. Mini skirts -yuk. I don't want to see you thighs. they are not what they were when you were a cheerleader. Those blouses that make you look pregnant. Let the gals who couldn't possibley be wear them. Why would you give anyone any doubt? Please. They put 15 lbs. on you. think how hard you work to lose that. The wrinkled look is the most unflattering thing since the moo-moo and the crocs. You feel, and behave like you look. How can you feel like a lady when you look like a bag lady who just woke up from under the overpass. Messy hair. What ever happened to good grooming? It baffles me to bekieve that women fall for gimmic that messy is in. That they actually pay a lot of money for it is even more disturbing. It might br cute on a 16 year old, but c'mon ladies, comb your hair, put some make-up on, hold your head up high, smile, go to Marshalls, target, flea markets, Costgo, Wall mart, thrift shops, t.j.Maxx etc....and dress fashionably, trendy, neatly,, stylishly, but act your age!!!!!!

127. Obviously, these were written by someone under 40. I suppose I resent the notion that 40 year old women can't have baby bellies. We do!

128. I disagree! I am 48, just had Gastric Bypass surgery and LIVE in leggings, I don't want to buy new clothes until I stop losing weight and the leggings fit me so far at everysize. I totally agree with the woman that said, she was tired of being told what to wear. Use good judgement, (I don't wear leggings to business meetings or church) and dress yourself the way you like, if you are like me you have being doing it for yourself for over 40 years!

129. I don't agree with the crocs. In Florida, everyone wears them in all colors to match their outfits. Because of the style of the shoe, they are very appropriate with Florida casual wear. I love the look with capri pants which are popular with the older crowd thar no longer feels comfortable in shorts. (Why did you not think of shorts??) They are also not an inexpensive shoe and the support is wonderful versus a simple sandle. Oh, I am 60 and not giving up on style and comfort.

131. I am 24 years old and a co-worker mentioned that I should stop shopping in juniors because I am getting too "old". This was a pretty ridiculous statement in my opinion. I look younger than I am, and many of the shirts I buy, I can imagine my 52 year old mother borrowing from me. This idea that once you reach a certain age, you can no longer where trendy clothing, is absurd. I feel that this article is ridiculous as well. Are you saying that Demi Moore shouldn't wear a bikini? She looks better than most 20 something year olds! With regard to crocs - I am not a fan of them for anyone, but that is beside the point. Basically, I feel that there are some things that people shouldn't wear as they get older (i.e. a boy band t-shirt), but other than that - if you can rock a bikini, and look great in a pair of leggings, I say go for it!

132. This article is totally wrong. If you have the confidence and the attitude to where these clothes, more power to you. Yes, some people shouldn't be in a bikini....over 40 or even the younger generation, but if you are in good shape, go for it. It's not the clothes you wear, but how you wear the clothes. I'm over 50, people tell me I look 40, and I wear what I feel comfortable in with confidence....bikini included!

133. I agree with all EXCEPT Crocs and backpacks. I see men way over 40 wearing Crocs and I like to wear them not only for standing long periods, but also for doing alot of walking. I use a backpack while riding a bicycle as it is the easiest and most efficient way to carry necessary items and purchases from stores. I am 56!!!

134. I feel your age has very little to do with what you wear. It's how old you look and how something looks on you that should dictate what you wear. I see more fat young girls/women wearing bikini's that they shouldn't be wearing than I do those over 40. I think maybe an article on dressing for your body would be more beneficial.

135. How ridiculous to list a group of clothing that SHOULD NOT BE WORN by over 40 year olds. Paaahleese..age is not a determination of what you wear..there are some 20 year olds that should not be caught dead in some of these things. Wear what you feel is appropriate for your size and figure..And as for the Crocs. I proudly wear mine at 47 (jibbitz and all!!!)

136. I am 59 and do not agree with your views. I thank the other ladies who wrote their views against this kind of advice. This sets women back 50 years. Men can wear anything and you don't hear a word. Work on them. You won't because ,Men don't BUY into it.

137. I feel that if a woman has a great body, great attitude and confident enough to wear a bikini, babydoll or whatever she may want to wear, it is strictly a personal choice. This obsession with youth is suffocating and ridiculous. I am oh so SICK of some self-appointed fashion expert expounding on the evils of being over 40.
It is not a surprise, shock or freak of nature for women to be fit, beautiful and sexy after age 40. It is just the "dirty little secret" that the media and the male dominated media at that, doesn't want people to see. Well, I've got news for all of you....being 40 and over is not a death sentence nor do you have to dress like Nanny McPhee. I say to HELL with these idiots and DO YOUR THING!

138. This articles is nothing more than a cheap and shameless plug by AOL for Overstock.com.

139. There's no way I'm giving up my backpack. I work in a school and it not only holds my stuff, but it zips up for security, and leaves my arms free. It protects my back in a crowd, too. Mine is black and I think it's perfectly appropriate.

140. Does a twenty-year old really need to wear "Key West," or anything else for that matter, across her backside? So glad to see that AOL is supporting age discrimination. Since the beginning of time, women have been told what jobs they had to do, what to wear, whom to be subservient to, whom they should or should not marry, and on and on. But today, many women, certainly not all, have something called freedom of choice. Women should have the freedom to choose what they want to wear. True, it would be nice if women would consider good taste and body size and type when making their clothing choices; however, many women don't, especially younger women. As many other people pointed out, plenty of younger women look horrendous with their fat bellies hanging out, their gross tattoes all over their bodies, their thongs and cracks hanging out of their too tight jeans. AOL--If you want to write an article about using good taste for women of all ages, that's one thing, but don't single out older women. Older women have fought too hard to get rights that younger women today take for granted. Important rights in the workplace, in politics, and in the home. Perhaps, AOL needs someone older on their staff for some perspective.
