Linksys WIP300 Wireless-G VoIP Phone

- Pros:
Lightweight, reasonable battery life, bright display - Cons:
can datafill six SIP and 6 network setups but only have one SIP profile active at one time. Can't dial direct to an IP address. Ringtones leave a bit to be desired -
Summary:
I've used the Zyxel P2000W in the past and this phone does have a few features missing on that model. The manual that coes on the included CD, and that is about all that is on there can also be found on-line. There seems to be two versions, one goes into more depth regarding the configuration of the phone, wirelessly, using your browser. The phone is open source software and there are "other" firmware loads available, that, of course will void your warranttee. It won't dial an IP address (the P2000W will from the phone book). It had a very extensive directory allowing you to store multiple numbers and emails against a name, much like a current model cell phone. It does do email,to multiple accounts, although sending anything more than a short message will get "old" real fast (unless you love to text). If you are travelling, your outgoing mail will have a problem unless you know what the SMTP server is that you are connected to. You can store up to six network profiles and six SIP profiles, you link a single SIP profile to each network profile. So if you are at home, you can link to Free World Dialup and at work, to the VoIP server there. It is fairly easy to change them around as need be. Only one SIP profile can register at one time. If you leave the last network profile as "other" and open it will go down the list in order and not finding one of your preferred networks will try to connect with any open access point. It is much faster letting you know that it can't make a connection than the P2000W, allowing you to do a site survey and try a different node.Unfortunately this phone, like many of the inexpensive models does NOT have a browser, so you can't use it at hot spots that require you to register with a password. Spare batteries are available on the net and are surprisingly inexpensive. the phone will charge off a standard USB port with the right cable , you get a charger but not the USB cable. Overall it is a step up, for me, from the monochrome P2000W, it's a bit smaller and lighter and more flexible with regards to SIP settings. It seems to be a second generation model and now that the price has dropped, makes it a great VoIP "starter" phone. As the cell phone market has shown, the new and improved models are always just around the corner.

Summary:
We were psyched to get this new phone. Visions of voip phone calls from any hotel in the world were plenty. After a week of calling varios tech people and looking online we finally were able to configure it to our office VOIP system. Voice quaility was horrible and the phone would lock up and miss calls all the time. Resetting the phone would reestablish connectivity. We never did get it to work outside the office.
